Niall: Hey babe. Look Im sorry about before. I hope it dosent change things, I just kind of almost did it but I realise that I don’t feel that way towards you and you obviously don’t feel that way about me so can we just forget it ever happened. About to get on the plane, ill skype you tomorrow. Ni xx
Huh.
That text from Niall should have given me a feeling of relief and it did, but, there is something more there. I feel that even though I am so thankful that he didn’t mean to do it but, im still upset. There could be something there, im not going to lie, in hindsight I think I wanted to kiss him.
What am I doing. I will not be one of those girls that fall for her best friend, that is not my story. At least, I don’t think it is.
Is that what he wants?
I threw myself onto my bed, groaning into my pillow as I tried to decode the thoughts that were going on in my head. I don’t like him now, but in that split second when his warm breath hit my face and his nose moved towards mine, I did. I wanted him in that moment, so what does that mean?
I need to let that split second of desire go, picking up my phone I plastered a fake grin on my face, despite only sending a text, and tapped out a message.
Me: Don’t worry, its forgotten. Horny bugger. Talk tomorrow, have an awesome time chasing leprechauns and downing tinnies. Ali xx
He replied almost immediately.
Niall: Haha, that’s true, I need to get myself a girlfriend. I will have fun catching up with some old friends, we can chase the pot of gold together. Night. Ni xx
Me: Night. J Ali xx
Did I feel anything when Niall said we wanted a girlfriend? Honestly, no. I didn’t feel that way about him and that was a huge relief. A tired and cranky Nell appeared at my door in her pyjamas, a stuffed dog trailing after her, being dragged by the floppy ear.
“Whats wrong babe?” I asked smiling sadly at my baby sister and Ruff, her ‘dog’.
“Ruff and I had a bad dream.” She explained, her small, pink lips turning downward so they formed a frown. I held open my arms as she walked into them. I lifted her up on to the bed, using one hand to brush her soft baby hair off her face, placing a feather light kiss on her forehead.
“What was it about?” I asked as I rocked her slightly as she sat on my lap, burrowing into my chest.
“There was this big monster who ate you and Ruff and Daddy and Niall and then he roared and tried to eat me too!” She explained as she shook slightly from the chill. I lifted her again, placing her in my own, warm bed as she snuggled into one side. “Tell me a fairy story?” She requested.
I nodded and stood up, pulling my hair back into a messy bun piled on top of my head. Pulling off my clothes and trading them for pyjamas I told the first story that came to my head.
“There was a princess and prince. The prince promised the princess that he would marry her, but secretly, he loved a different woman, the commoner. The king said that the Prince would only marry the princess, because commoners were not allowed to marry royalty. The prince grew deeper and deeper in love with the peasant everyday until one day he ran away with her. After a year of running, they finally settled in a town many, many miles away from his kingdom. They were married and she bore him a daughter and a son. One day, he came home from his job as a farmer, to find that his wife had been murdered by the ruthless Princess’ soldiers. The Princess had loved him, and driven by the fury she felt at having him leave her, tracked him down. After finding out about his beloved’s death he ran far and wide trying to escape from the fierce love that he and the peasant shared but no remedies could solve it. He was heartbroken. One day, several years later, he saw a castle so he went to it, only to discover that it was the kingdom where he was the prince. His father welcomed him with open arms, offering him the throne which he accepted. He was hollow as the death of his wife and love, had ruined him beyond repair. One day, his son and daughter came to the castle, begging him to give them food and shelter. He turned them away because they looked too much like her. Many years later, the Prince had grown old and weak and was on his death bed. In his final days, he realised that although, her life had stopped, his had not. He should have cared for his children instead on shutting down and neglecting them. He could never repay them for what had happened, but now his final and immortal life words are still quoted to this day. Keep going, because life is precious.” I turned to her, watching as she pondered things for a moment.
“I don’t ever want to fall in love. It only makes you sad.” She murmered snuggling up next to me.
“Not always.” I replied. “It can be good. Everyone has their prince, Nell.” I kissed her forehead again.
“I don’t want a prince, boys are smelly.” I laughed at her answer before she began thinking things over again, the little clogs in her head turning.
“Is NiNi your prince?” She asked, hopeful. I knew she loved Niall and she wanted us together, but it would be weird. Niall and I?
“No. Sorry baby.” I answered her, but it was any use she was sleeping and I smiled before snuggling up closer to her and drifting off into sleep.
