I groaned as I sat up the next morning.
Or at least tried to sit up.
Max was still sleeping on my shoulder.
"Fuck..." I whispered.
"Language!" I heard David call from the bathroom.
"David! Can you take the kid?" I asked him.
He stepped out of the bathroom. He smiled.
"I want a picture first." He said as he whipped out his phone.
"No!" I covered my face.
He laughed as he snapped the photo.
"Now that wasn't so hard was it?" David asked.
"Yes." I said angrily.
David rolled his eyes and walked over.
"Cmere Max..." He said as he picked up the boy.
"Thank you!" I said, annoyed out of my mind.
Max rolled over in David's arms.
David smiled weakly.
"What's up with you?" I asked him.
"He's so light. And innocent... So young... Why did all that happen to him?" Tears formed in his big green eyes as he stared at the boy.
"Hey... It's ok David..." I said before standing up and hugging the two of them.
"Enough with all the emotional shit!" Max yell from in our embrace.
"Language." David said quietly.
I looked down at Max and saw him staring at us.
It wasn't his usual 'I hate everything' stares. It was a happy look.
And that made me happy.
