I was in my cabin getting ready.
I was wearing my usual outfit but with a black tie hanging from my neck.
I fixed the tuft of hair that me and David share until it was perfect.
I sighed.
"I guess this is good." I said softly.
I walked out the cabin and walked to my car.
Until I was tackled.
"The hell? Max?" I said as I got up.
The boy stood up and grabbed my tie.
"Listen cultist! You hurt David and I kill you! Got it?!?" He yelled.
"Why would you care?" I asked as I pried him off me.
"Because David is like a father to me! I have no one who cares, except for him!" I saw tears line his bright green eyes.
I blinked. My whole perspective on Max had changed. He wasn't a bad kid, he was alone. It reminded me of myself growing up. I also had no one.
"Come here." I said and pulled him into a hug. "I won't hurt him. Promise."
When I let him go Max was full on crying.
"It's ok champ. I'll take good care of him." I told him.
"Oh and Daniel." Max called to me as I walked away.
"Yes Max?"
"Touch him and you fucking die." He said finally.
"Not promising anything there kid!" I laughed as I drove away.
