"Alright, Lani." Maddie placed her hands together, then set them down on the table. "I guess I have a lot of explaining to do."
"Yeah, you do." I crossed my arms and sat back in my chair. "Start talking, Ziegler, or you gonna kill me too?" I whispered.
"Oh, shut it, Hilliker," She scoffs. "I haven't been caught yet, and I don't intend on it either."
"You gonna start talking or should I just get up and leave?" I hurried her.
"Alright!" She became more frustrated. "It started when me and him met." She sighed, burying her forehead in her hands. "I was young... and quite stupid as a matter of fact. It all started like a cliché high school movie."
*Maddie's flashback*
I was walking down the school hallway, hiding the fact that I was crying by holding my books in front of my face and only looking down when I crashed into a guy.
"Oh, sorry." I murmured slightly, dropping all of my books, gathering stares. I quickly wiped a tear away.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry." He instantly helped me up, then helped pick up all of my books and get them into my hands neatly.
"Thanks. I'm Maddie." One corner of my mouth tilted slightly up which I hoped he considered a smile, I didn't consider it a smile because it was so small it was barely visible.
"Josh," He smiled, holding out his hand for me to shake. I smile and shake it. I had instantly taken a liking to Josh, and I got really attached over the next few months. I finally had gotten the courage to tell him I liked him.
"Hey, um, Josh..."
"Mads! Just the girl I was looking for, gotta talk to you at lunch!" He softly punched my shoulder.
"Oh! Me too." I smile.
"Cool, see you then!" He smiles, then walks off.
Lunch came around and Josh and I have been best friends for a few months now, and we sit together for lunch and breaks.
Breaking me out of my thoughts, Josh comes and sits next to me. "Hey, Mads."
"Hey, Josh." I smile.
"So... about that thing I wanted to talk to you about..." He trailed off.
"Mhm." I nodded.
"I was wondering if you'd like to be my girlfriend?" He asks.
