That's when I burst into tears.
"Oh, God. Lani, no!" Maddie ran up to me, quickly hugging me and catching me before I fell to my knees. "Oh, no, I'm so sorry! I had no clue."
"How didn't you know, Maddie? It was all over the news!"
"I was too busy locked up in my room, crying, weeks after it all had happened to even glance at my phone or at a TV!" Maddie said, tears filling up her crystal blue eyes.
My sobbing had stopped, but the tears were still running down my face, anger taking over me slowly. "It was selfish, Maddie! I don't care how bad you felt, you should've at least checked a TV or a newspaper for all I care! That was my father, Maddie! You basically broke apart my somewhat alright family into some trashy mess! My mom wouldn't leave her room for weeks either because her husband was taken and tossed into some terrible jail for something he didn't do! My mom warned me about you, Maddie, and I didn't listen! Because I actually thought you were a good person! But no, you were the one person who made my mom lose her actually caring husband. Get out. Please, Maddie. Get out."
"I-I'm sorry, Lani."
"Don't call me that. My dad used to call me that. Get out." She took one last glance at me, then left without a single glance back. I slammed the door shut and pushed my back against it, sobbing my heart out.
My phone buzzed with a text.
Nia
Meeting at my house in 5, be there?Me

Alright. See you soon.
"Mom?""Yes, honey?" She called back from her room.
"Can I go to Nia's house?"
"Will Maddie be there?"
"No."
"Go ahead."
I didn't feel like facing my mom after my fight with Maddie, so I just grabbed my purse and left. Once I had gotten to Nia's house, all eyes turned to me.
"Oh my God, Kalani!" All the concerned girls ran up to me, hugging me, while Paige and Brooke stayed on Nia's couch, not bothered the slightest bit, on their phones.
"I just, I really need to talk to Paige and Brooke really quick." I whispered to them.
"No way. I'm not talking to her alone. She'll probably kill me." Paige sneered.
"Me either." Brooke echoed.
"Fine, then. I'll tell you right here in front of everyone," I sighed. The girls exchanged glances with the Hyland sisters, confused. "My dad didn't murder your brother."
"Bull crap." Paige scoffed.
"What about all the evidence? How they found our brother dead outside of your house?"
"That means nothing... someone could've put him there."
"Ugh, liar!" Paige got up and headed towards the door, Brooke following. I grabbed her arm stopping her.
"Please, Paige, you have to believe me." She took one disgusted look at my hand on her arm, flicked it off and scoffed.
"Oh, yeah? And why should I believe a single word you say?"
"You just... have to... alright?"
She scoffed again, then left with Brooke by her side.
"You know what? I give up. I give up on drama." I scoffed, then left too.
A few days later, I still hadn't come out of the house. I hadn't picked up any phone calls or responded to any text messages from the Elites. The worried ones had showed up to my house and my mom made an excuse that I was camping with my grandparents. "Kalani! Come downstairs now! You have to see this!" My mom yelled.
I ran downstairs to hear the TV on high volume and my mom's eyes glued onto the screen. "Hello everyone! This is channel five news here and we are here with breaking news! This just in, we have a confession here for the murder of Josh Hyland. The girl named in the snippet of this arrest is Madison Nicole Ziegler." They played a recording from a cell phone camera of Maddie being handcuffed willingly and making no sign of resistance.
"This one's for you, Kalani. Brooke. Hilliker," She said, tears filling her eyes. "I know you're watching this and I just want you to know this is all for you."
"Oh my God." I started crying.
