I smoothed down the front of my black dress, walking towards the church, East clutched on my arm. I wiped my tears running down my face as Chloe squeezed my arm. "Come on, Lani. We'll get through this."
I let out a shaky sigh before continuing to walk down the path, giving her a half smile.
Afterwards, me and Chloe went to my house. "If you want to, you can sleep over tonight." I said.
I took out some clothes for the two of us, wanting to get rid of the uncomfortable dresses and change into something more comfortable.
"Alright. I'll text my mom right now." She smiles, pulling out her phone.
I headed inside the bathroom, washing my hands, then splashing water onto my face. I dried off, tossing on my old Nirvana t-shirt and polka dot shorts, then throwing my hair into a messy bun.
Stepping out of the restroom, I saw Chloe changed as well. "Thanks for the clothes."
"Yeah, of course." I felt like I'd gotten closer to Chloe after the breakdown. She told me that I was the only one in the group who actually cared about others, which I didn't think was true.
We had both began to doze off when my mind slipped into a dream.
I was at some kind of coffee shop, it was pretty, decorated withlights.I walked up to the counter, wanting to order coffee. "Excuse me?"I stood by the cash register, waiting for the waitress to look at me.
She spun around and a familiar dirty blonde met my eyes. "Maddie?"
She looked at me with such disgust, it was unreal. "It was all your fault."
"W-What? What was all my fault?" I began to shake uncontrollably.
"My death. Why I got taken to jail. Everything was your fault, Kalani." She spit out my name like it was poisonous.
I suddenly couldn't breathe, it was like someone was grabbing my throat but there was nothing holding it. I looked at Maddie to see her hand up, like it was grabbing my throat, but she wasn't touching me.
The last thought I had before everything went black was 'What?'
I woke up, short of breath and sweating, I began coughing and gasping for air.
"Lani? Are you okay?" I was still coughing and gasping but once I had gathered myself, Chloe looked at me concerned and placed her hand on my neck softly. "What happened to your neck?"
