What's that? Chapters are a dish best served long? Well here you go, 2K words fresh and ready from your very own Puma! Enjoy! When the next morning arrived, Emma awoke before Killian did. She frowned, wincing as she pulled her arms out of Killian's hold so she could use the bathroom.
She wondered. What had she done in her life to deserve all the challenges she was presented with?
Had she ever wronged anyone? Been unkind with no purpose?
She didn't think so.
So why was it that all she seemed able to do was get hurt?
The only thing she had to counter that theory was Killian.
Killian. The representation of what little good she had in her life.
The light that kept her moving forward.
The shoulder that was always there for her to cry on.
Emma shook herself out of her thoughts, splashing her face with cold water, and by the time she went back into the room, Killian had woken up.
And Emma had made a choice.
"Morning, Swan," Killian said, hoping to get a smile out of her.
"Hey," Emma answered briefly, starting to tuck her clothes and things back into her bag.
"Whoa- love, what are you doing...?"
Emma paused from her packing, saying over her shoulder, "...I'm leaving."
"Leaving...?" Killian asked with a sad frown.
"Yeah... I need to."
"I see..." Killian answered, disappointed.
"...It's for my own health, Killian. I can't handle living with your mother for another two weeks if she's going to make me feel the need to hurt myself every time I'm around her. I need to go back to campus," Emma explained, throwing her socks into her bag.
Killian sighed in understanding.
He knew what Emma was doing was exactly the right thing to do. She'd be safer that way.
But he resented the idea of leaving her alone at campus.
So much in fact, that the only thought on his mind was screw my mother, I'll go with her. I'll be damned if she's left alone...
"I'm coming too," Killian said, sitting up. Emma sighed, walking over to the bed and sitting beside him.
She took his hands into her own.
She looked up into his eyes.
And nothing needed to be said. They both knew.
They both knew Ava would never allow it. He'd never make it out of the house.
"I need to go," Emma whispered. She smiled, hugging Killian. "Thanks for keeping me company for a while. That's more than I could ever ask for and you've made this so amazing for me," Emma said genuinely.
"But- we haven't even put up the tree, the lights, I want you to have that-"
"Killian," Emma cut in. "It's okay. This? Being with you five days? That's enough for me. Hell, being with you one minute is enough just cause I get to see you. And hug you. And kiss you. You've made me so happy, but if I wanna stay that way I need to go back to campus. I'll see you when vacation is over," Emma said warmly.
"Okay," Killian said, beyond reluctant to let her go.
Emma let out a breath as she went downstairs with her single little suitcase and headed for the door.
