The legend tells that a beautiful and vain woman who was married to a samurai was intended by many men and always used to deceive her husband. The husband knew that his wife was unfaithful to him, so one day, during a fit of jealousy and fury, he cut her mouth from side to side as he shouted to her: Do you think you are beautiful? After dying she became a Yōkai (demonic spirit) who returned to take revenge, she asks her victims if she is beautiful. If the answer is No, she murders her victim, and if the answer is Yes, the victim ends up with her face cut off like her to feel the same for what she went through.
