Heartbeat

An ambulance driver walked into the ambulance I was being treated in. I was still fighting to see Everest. But they had restrained me and said I could see her when she was in a better state and so was I. They weren't taking no for an answer.
"If you let the medic treat you then I will tell you the news on your sister" the other ambulance driver said.
"Fine" I replied.
"Well we have a heart beat"
"You do!!!"
"Yeah we do I wouldn't be telling you otherwise!"
"Sorry I was just excited, can I see her"
I heard another ambulance man shouting.
"Wait a sec" the driver who I was talking to said and stepped out the vehicle.
When he walked in a minute later his face had dropped.
"WHAT, WHAT IS IT?!" I yelled throwing the pulse reader off my lap.
"They've lost it" he said looking gravely at me.
"WHAT" I screeched.
" There doing there best to help her, we just have to be patient" he said raising his voice a little.
"Logan don't get like that it's not good for the state your in" the nurse said coming over to me.
"THE STATE I'M IN IS BECAUSE MY SISTER DOESN'T HAVE A HEART BEAT AND I'M BEING TOLD TO BE PATIENT" I Yelled crying.
" I know this is hard for you, my mum died recently" the man said sitting down on the bed next to me. "I know what it's like"
"No you don't" I said meekly "you don't know what it's like"
He sighed " I suppose I could see if you can go in and see her seeing as your close family.
" Really" I said" how's Jake doing he was awake when we were being got out the car"
" He's doing fine as far as I know we think he has a sprained wrist as he was on the side of the car that the impact hit. And another boy has a suspected broken leg I think his name was Emilio. "
"Yeah he was on the side of the impact, but everyone's ok and awake except Everest"
"Yeah she was unfortunate enough to to be in the centre of the impact, so the whole impact effected her and the others just got the edges of it."
I felt tears form
"Right" the guy said " did u want to go see ur brother and go visit your sister"
"Yeah" I said I didn't know who else to say, I didn't really want to talk to anyone else. I just wanted Everest.
The driver took me to where Jake was being treated. He was sat up happily talking to his nurse. He looked up and saw me.
"Logan" he cried out " are you ok"
He had his hand in a temporary splint. But he still managed to get up and hug me.
"We're allowed to go see Everest" I said looking, the words feeling like poison as they slipped out my mouth. I chocked down my tears "have you heard"
"Heard what, what is it Logan"
"They've lost the heart beat" I said breaking down in tears.
"No" he cried "We must go to her"
The nurse stepped in.
"I've been told you boys need to go straight to your sister. They need to take her to hospital immediately and they have said you can go with her. All the rest of your friends who were in the crash are being taken to the same hospital where most are being treated for minor injuries"
We rushed to the ambulance Everest was being treated in.
A nurse smiled at me. "Good news" She said "we've got a feint one, your sisters very strong she's holding in there, talk to her she can hear and feel we suspect."
We both knelt down either side of her bed, and cried. The driver said it was time for then to drive us to the hospital but we stayed right next to her talking to her and holding her hand.
When we got to the hospital. Everest was taken into a room and we were told to wait in a room until she was in a fit state. I refused at first but Jake persuaded me not to make a scene. I then plucked up the courage to call our parents who immediatly were getting the first plane over here.
It was a long night, after we were let into the room me and Jake stayed by her until our parents came we did the same for the next few days were we talked to her. She never replied to us although each word I spoke to her I begged for a miracle that she'd talk back to me. Hours turned into days and days into weeks. I haven't slept in 7 days and I don't plan on it. One night Jake was asleep on the floor led next to the bed and our parents were slumped in there chairs sleeping. I was the only one awake. I was talking to Everest and crying. Then I prayed for a miracle. I didn't know what else to do I was stuck and scared.
Nothing happened .
I bent my head onto the bed and cried.
Then I thought to myself ' come on stay strong for her if she can hear you she doesn't wanna hear your pain'
"Hey Everest" I said "i miss you, we all do. Don't worry you'll be fine I hope your not in pain."
I touched her hand and squeezed it.
I felt something feint like her hand squeezing mine.
Nah i thought it's just my mind playing tricks on me, 7 days no sleep does things like this.
But then I felt it again this time harder. I looked into her eyes and saw them slowly open.
"Logan" I heard her say.
"Everest" I kind of shouted.
I heard Jake wake up. He looked up over the bed sleepily at me. "What Is it"
"Everest's awake"
"Seriously "
We both heard her cry out in pain.
"Jake call the nurse be quick I'll stay with her" I instructed.
Jake got up and legged it out the door i heard him shout for the nurse.
I squeezed Everest's hand "don't worry Everest I got you"
About 20 nurses rushed in awakening our parents who wanted to know what was going on. I was pushed out the way as they crowded around Everest taking blood and keeping her talking. A nurse turned to me " are you Logan" She asked
"Yeah" I said
"She's refusing to talk she says she wants you"
I couldn't help but smile. That's my sister. I pushed through the crowd and knelt next to her. I talked to her and asked questions that the medics were asking me to ask her. One tapped on the shoulder and asked all of the family to step out for an hour while they strapped up her broken bones. I got Jake and mum and dad and we walked outside to the family room. I managed to get a 2 hour sleep until we were woken up by the nurse saying were allowed in. When I walked in she looked worse, she had a leg in cast and a leg strapped up one arm was in cast strapped up and the other one was folded across her chest. Her neck was in a brace as well.
When she saw us she smiled. We knelt down beside her.
" I guess you got ur click bait now" She laughed.
We both laughed.
I looked at her " Why are you still laughing after all you've been through" I asked " It's ok to be upset"
" I know" She replied " but I don't have anything to be upset about." We both looked at her confused.
" well I've still got my life and I've still got the best brothers in the world. I'm lucky to be living lots of people wouldn't walk out of that alive"
Wow even I don't know if I'd have been as brave as that.
"I'm so sorry" Jake said out of nowhere. It was the first thing he had said .
Everest looked at me.
" you know I'd forgive you no matter what and anyway it wasn't your fault
" but if I'd have looked left I'd have seen the car and stopped"
"But you didn't and being sorry over it won't help me recover"
Our parents had just left to take care of 'business'. My mum was reconsidering letting Everest stay with us but I persuaded her to give us a chance and go from the after all it was no one's fault except for the idiot driving the land rover.
There was a knock at the door. I got up and went to it when I opened it everyone else from the crash. I'd visited them everyday when I wasn't busy with Everest and the doctors had said everyone including me and Jake would be discharged once we were all sorted out. Which ment Jake having a cast on his wrist. And Emilio has a cast on his leg. They all came into the room and crowded round Everest. I think they realised how easy they had got off. And you could see the sadness in them all. Everest chatted quite happily to them. After visiting time was over they had to leave and were going back to the house. The nurse came in and said Everest would be allowed to return home the end of next week, but she'd have to be in a wheel chair for a month or so and she'd need help doing her usual things. We agreed on this and decided I would move in to the Team 10 house So I could look after her even when Jake was out or filming. George was gonna take over the apartment for a while and Kong would come to because he was friends with Dixie.
It was all settled. We couldn't wait till Everest was allowed out of this hospital, because hospitals tend to make you feel worse.
