The two of them kept talking about whatever came to their minds throughout the entire drive. Around Okehampton Brian pulled over and he and Ellie switched because Brian was starting to get quite tired. And Ellie was glad to take over because she wanted them both to get to Truro in one piece. Brian seemed to be glad about the chance to relax a little.
"Look at that, the sky is brightening up a little for sunset.. Hey you know what we should do?" He asked, sitting up a little straighter again. "Turn right," he instructed Ellie.
"What? Why? I have to turn left here for Truro, that's what it says on the sign," she told him confused, slowing down the car a little.
"Just trust me, okay?"
Ellie nodded and sighed, turning right like he had told her. "Alright, fine. Now I'm curious," she told him and glanced at him. "What do you have planned?"
"I just have an idea I think you might like."
"In Newquay?" She asked curiously.
"Not quite, but somewhere around there..." He sat up straight and leaned down to get the map his parents kept in the car out of the door pocket and started to leaf through it.
"You're aware that I have no clue where I'm going, right?" Ellie asked and looked at him warily.
Brian nodded and smiled at her. "I know, I know, just keep following the road to Newquay for now."
Ellie did as he told her, relaxing a little more when he seemed to have found the correct page in the roadmap. "Okay, just tell me where to go... This is really beautiful actually," she told him, daring to look around a little. "I like it here." She continued to drive through the Cornish countryside, enjoying the view, until Brian gave her the next instruction.
"Keep left here," he told her, looking from the map to the road ahead and back. "We're not actually going into Newquay.."
"Alright.." Ellie did what he told her, curious where he was leading them. "I hope you know what you're doing."
"I hope so too," Brian agreed, chuckling softly.
"Towards Redruth?" Ellie asked, wanting to make sure since he didn't seem to be entirely certain.
"Yes, and now not towards Perranporth. There should be a turn right. Pentire or something like that.."
Ellie nodded a little, keeping her eyes open for the names he mentioned.
"Here, here!" Brian exclaimed, pointing to the right. "That's the road I mean."
"Alright, alright, don't yell.." Ellie laughed softly, taking a turn to the right. "This road seems to lead to nowhere..."
"Mh, something like that," Brian agreed amused.
Ellie raised her eyebrows and looked at him. "What exactly are you planning? Something frisky in the wilderness?"
Brian laughed and shook his head. "Not quite my original plan, no. We'll see what happens. You definitely wouldn't have to be quiet though," he teased, making Ellie laugh.
"You're unbelievable. There's seriously nothing around though. Trees, grass, fences... Occasionally a hint of civilisation." However suddenly they came to a crossroad and Ellie slowed down. "Alright, what now? Left or right?"
"Right. Definitely. If we're not completely wrong."
"We?" Ellie teased. "I'm just doing what you're telling me."
"Yes, yes, of course, I'll take all the blame. But if we're not wrong I'm expecting a least a kiss as thank you," he told her and smirked at her.
"That will not be a problem, believe me." Ellie smiled at him and turned right. It took a few more minutes before they could distinguish a few houses coming up. It looked exactly the way you'd imagine a Cornish coastal village, small, cosy, and quite windy. "Where on earth are we?"
