Selena groans against the pain behind her eyes, and presses the palms of her hands to the sockets. Her head is pounding, her spine aches, her chest is sore, and her lip feels fat. After registering the pain, she realizes she is lying flat on her back on a cold, metal surface.
She is being weighed down by something. Little tubed IV's are attached to her like parasites. Some pumping her full of clear, thick liquid, and some transporting blood from her. Selena tries to sit up, but her head is heavy, and fuzzy. The disoriented feeling makes her lay her head back down. She looks to her right and there's a reflective metal serving as a mirror. She can barely see herself, but she knows she is extremely pale.
Clothing rustles on her other side and she forces her head to look over. There's a boy sitting on a bench wearing dark grey cargo pants and a dark blue hoodie. His hair is a mop on his head, but his hazel blue green eyes give him a boyish look. He seemed familiar to Selena, but she couldn't place a name to the face. Perhaps they went to school together.
The lighting was dim, as if they were supposed to be sleeping. The boy had his feet pulled up on the bench and his arms were folded on top of his knees. He was facing the far wall, lost in thought.
Selena tried to think of something, anything that would help her out in her current situation. What had happened? Was she at a hospital? Who is this kid in her room? Where was Leon? What about the guy who hit her? Where was he?
Selena's head started to spin and hurt worse, so she closed her eyes and drifted off once more.

Jake fiddles with his shoe laces, occasionally sneaking a look at the passed out girl before him. She was really pretty: curvy and fair. He tried to keep control of his eyes, but the girl was laying in a way that showed off her deep breathing, which meant her chest rose and fell just enough to catch a teenage boys attention. But that wasn't the only thing that kept his attention. Her somewhat troubled face had similar features to his mother, and a very slight jaw structure that he and his father shared.
Jake's one prized possession was a photo of his pregnant mother, and the alikeness was uncanny. Perhaps they were related? That would explain why Saddler wanted her so badly.
He noticed her begin to stir for the second time within an hour of waiting, so he got up and dimmed the lights for her. Selena's eyes blink open, revealing the brightest shade of baby blue he had ever seen. Her eyes were practically glowing, and they were staring right at him.
"Um," Jake stumbles over his words, scratching the back of his neck. "Are you hungry? Um..thirsty?"
She didn't answer him for a moment, but just glared furiously at him. And then her chapping lips parted and she croaked out some weak syllables that were completely indistinguishable. Jake went for his backpack on the table he's been sitting on, and grabbed his water bottle, opening it, and helped Selena sit up enough to take a swig.
When she was done, he recapped the water bottle and placed it on the table.
"Where am I," she questions, finally.
"My dads secondary lab. I'm not really supposed to tell you anything about it...I'm not really supposed to see you at all," he chuckles nervously, glancing at the door.
"I'm leaving," she states, and goes to pull out her IV's.
"You can't," Jake yells and leaps toward her, but it was too late. The tube pushing in the thick serum came out with a 'pop' and a small squirt of blood. Selena hisses in pain as the machine she was connected to starts to beep. "Jesus Christ," Jake curses and grabs some gauze out of a drawer as Selena continues to rip out her IV's, crying out in more pain with each one.
The sliding door to the lab opens just in time for Selena to fall to the ground, trying to walk, and Jake is trying to help her up, while trying to stop her bleeding.
Andie, Carla, and Sebastian all file into the room. Andie curses and marches over to the two teens and tears the two apart. Carla goes over and grabs Jake firmly by the shoulder, yanking him away and up to his feet. "What do you think you're doing," she growls.
"She fell! I was just trying to help her up! I swear, I wasn't going to let her get away!"
Carla narrows her eyes at him. "You're not even supposed to be down here."
"I know," Jake says, looking like a kicked puppy. "But it's Selena."
Carla rolls her eyes and frowns. Andie practically man handles Selena back onto her resting place, the girl protesting the entire way. Andie scoffs, looking at the tubes, long since emptied. The machine had done it's job and turned itself off when it no longer had a host to work on, saving serum from going to waste.
Selena is too weak to fight back, but her brilliant blue eyes land on Sebastian. "Why," she asks, her voice cracking. "What are you doing to me?"
"What needs to be done," he replies, finally walking toward her. He gets close enough to brush stray hair behind her ear and cup her face in his hand. "You are the final key to everything."
"Final key to what," she cries, tears finally bursting from her eyes.
"Many things. With yours and Jake's blood, we can dominate the world with a stronger, better virus than ever before. We will have control over the living dead. And...I get my revenge on Agent Kennedy."
"Leon? What does he have to do with you?"
"He killed my father."
"The only reason Leon would KILL anybody, is if they were trying to kill him first!"
"Osmond Saddler may not have been a good man, but his death could have been avoided. Your Leon is no hero."
"You're wrong, Leon is the bravest, strongest, most intelligent man I've ever met! He is more of a hero than you'll ever be!"
"All a matter of opinion," Sebastian waves her comment off. "I do hope he comes to save you. I'll be sure to leave clues. Test out that intelligence you speak of." He walks to the other side of her, to Andie, and she hands him two viles of blood, and one vile of the white liquid. He places them carefully in his white lab coat and pats Selena's head. "You're a good girl. I'm sad it had to be you."
Sebastian turns and walks out the door. Andie follows suit close behind him, with Carla on their tails.
"Come on, Jake. You're not staying," Carla says firmly. Jake gives Selena a sad look, but she turns her face away as fresh tears course down her cheeks. Jake walks out of the lab with his head low, and Selena sobs quietly to herself; more hurt and heartbroken than she's ever been before.
