Chase and I met Lucky at a fountain by a mall. She wore skinny jeans and a gray shirt with a dark green cardigan. She waved to me and I ran into her hug. Lucky squeezed me for a moment and then released me before frowning at Chase.
"So your boyfriend needs clothes?" Chase nodded
and put an arm around my shoulders. It startled me and I forgot that Chase was supposed to be my boyfriend. We all walked through the mall's automatic doors. Chase's arm remained around my shoulders as we looked through the windows of the shops. As we walked I took short looks over at Chase, after looking over for the hundredth time his face was red, and his body went stiff. I looked over to see what he was looking at, it was a Victoria's Secret, a laugh escaped from my lips I couldn't stop. Lucky must have seen the look on Chase's face because she doubled over with laughter as well. He covered his face and averted his eyes from the shop, his face still red.
"Come on, perv." Lucky walked beckoning us to follow. We ended up with huge shopping bags, full of clothes.
Lucky smiled widely at me. I felt bad for not hanging out with her as much but when you are taking care of an "evil" demon, your schedule fills up. I heard a scream as a man dashed out of the store in front of me. He wore a black mask, and a black hoodie.
"Stop that thief!" Many people stared at the man while one boy lunged for him. He has golden hair and hazel eyes. He looked my age but it was hard to tell as he chased after the man. I looked over to see Chase stare at him, his face serious. He turned over to me and whispered in my ear,
"Take Lucky and get out of here, it is dangerous." My eyes widened.
"What are you going to do?" He gave me a lopsided grin,
"Don't worry princess, I won't hurt him i'm just going to return what he stole. I can tell that's what you want." I blush and nod, I grab Lucky's hand and we run out of the mall. I know he'll do the right thing. Won't he?
"We have to help!"
"Chase can help but this could be dangerous. What if he has a gun?"
"I never took you as a coward."
I looked at Lucky's eyes and I couldn't help but read exactly what they were displaying. He was my responsibility even if Lucky knew it or not. I had to at least watch. Lucky believed he was my boyfriend and I wasn't about to leave my lover.
Lucky and I ran back to hid behind a small shop stand. I wouldn't let chase use his powers. If it got too bad I would step in.
Lucky stood behind me, her eyes focused on the masked guy. I gasped when he pushed over a woman holding her daughter, Chase ran and broke their fall. He made sure they were okay before running after the robber. Chase, tackled the masked man causing him to dropped all of the stolen items. The masked man had hit Chase, and before I knew what I was doing I ran from behind the shop stand to Chase. Chase had kicked the masked man's leg when the masked man fell he didn't try to get back up. I reached Chase and I hugged him tight, he seemed surprised that I was still in the mall but squeezed me. Blood trickled from his temple from being hit. When I reached up and touched where he was hit he hissed and shrunk back.
"Can we go home?" I asked, the least I could do is clean up his wound.
"This guy needs to be punished, Sierra."
"Please." I pleaded.
"I said I would protect you."
"And you did, the police will be here any moment to get him. Can we please go home?" my hands shook, the fear from the fight must have finally kicked in.
"Sierra...fine." Chase said pulling away from me. He looked up and I finally noticed the boy who went after the burglar earlier. He stared at Chase and held a phone in his hand. He must have called the police.
Lucky drove me and Chase home, but the car was silent the whole ride. I sat next to Chase and looked at him with worry, but he wouldn't face me, he wouldn't look at me. I placed my hand and squeezed it, hoping he would say something. He looked at me, then back out the window. I sighed and closed my eyes trying to erase the scene in the mall.
We reached our tiny apartment.
"You should go into the shower," I say quietly looking at the floor, "i'll put the clothes away." I grab the bags and begin to walk away, but his hand gently grabs my arm.
"Sierra. I'm not good." I look at him surprised,
"What do you mean, of course you are." I gave a small smile. He grabbed both of
my arms pulling me exactly in front of his face.
"I was raised by demons in hell, taught to do wrong. I was taught to cheat, lie, and kill. Even when I tried to be good they-", Chase stopped and stared at the ground. I watched with sad eyes, I dip my head so he would look at me,
"Chase, you may have been raised by demons. May have been taught to cheat, lie, and kill. But I know that you are good. You have saved me countless times. You helped that mother and her child in the mall today. You can call yourself evil and a monster, but from what I have seen from you. In my eyes, I see nothing but a hero." Then Chase did an unexpected thing.
He laughed. He released my arms and leaned into my ear.
"You have a terrible judge of character." Chase fell into my arms and I heard a light snore.
I dragged him to my bed, and put him in and tucking him in. I watched his slow, even breathing. I brushed his hair out of his face with my fingers, and planted a faint kiss on his forehead.
"Goodnight Chase." I close the door to my room softly not to wake him and sit onto the couch and start to put away his new clothes. I don't know exactly when but I had faded into sleep.
