The morning came faster than I had hoped, I woke up Chase and sighed. Monday. Lucky sat beside me on my couch as Chase got dressed in his new clothes.
"Hey Sierra can we talk?"
"Yeah, what's up?" I say tired.
"About yesterday...Chase was..ummm he was-um.."
"He was..... what?"
"Superman? He threw that guy like he was a baby doll."
"He just works out a lot, what's so weird about that?" I hated lying to Lucky but that was the only way to keep her safe.
"That wasn't normal and you know it."
"Well I don't know, but he did help. So I don't see why that's what stood out to you."
"Because it was insane! Why are you denying it?"
"Well, maybe because he's my boyfriend? Have you ever thought that I don't want to talk about yesterday? I was scared something horrible would happen to him! So yes, maybe he is a little stronger than usual people but he helped. He put himself in danger to help." I was angry, not that she was seeing things and putting pieces together but because I couldn't tell her the truth.
"It's still a big deal! I think we both need to worry about this! He wasn't exactly scared when he volunteered to smack down that thief!"
"He did it to make sure we were safe! He told me to get out because it was dangerous and to take you with me! He was a fucking hero!" I scream at her, my face red and tears on the verge of spilling over. I walk to the front door and slam it shut as I stomp out of the apartment, angrily. I text Chase that I am walking to school by myself.
I tapped on the desk and stared at the board. Me and Lucky rarely fought, especially one this big. I felt like bursting into tears. Chase was with me all day. We were in the same classes after all. Lucky and I didn't have the exact same classes but I saw her quite a bit and both of us silently agreed not to talk to each other. Why was I lying to her? Was her safety worth all the lies? Is this how superheros in the comics felt?
During lunch Chase had gotten me a peanut butter sandwich.
"No thanks." I said holding my knees to my chest. It was cold outside but I didn't care.
"You have to eat something Sierra." He gave me a look I couldn't read, maybe it was worry, or sadness, or something. I lean against the wall still holding my knees.
"I have no appetite." I say closing my eyes.
"Sierra. You can tell her you know. It is just that if I had to choose between you and her I would go after you. You are my top priority." he reached out his hand for mine to hold. I just turn away from him, avoiding the hurt in his eyes.
"I can't tell her. You know that Chase." I look into his eyes, tears brimming my eyes once again. I look up at the clouded sky, not caring that tear are spilling.
"Master, I will tell her if you don't. I can see that this is hurting you." my lips part, and I look at him fear crossing over my face. His face was straight no emotions showing. I guess I would have to tell her.
"Fine but you have to make a promise to me."
"Yes master." I look him in the eye with all seriousness,
"If both Lucky and I are in danger, I want you to save her. Not me." I got up to go tell her before I went inside the cafeteria I looked over to see Chase looking the ground. I continue inside to find Lucky.
I grab Lucky's shoulder and turn her around to face me. We made eye contact and I saw so much sadness in those green eyes of hers.
"Lucky I need to talk to you, alone."
