Dad took the guest room. Mom said he'd be staying for awhile. I didn't know why he came out of the blue. Yet for now, I didn't care. Him being here was all that mattered.
"How's school going?" Dad says.
He's drinking cereal. He slurps it as if its soup. I know it annoys the crap out of mom so I don't ever complain.
"Its fine, I'm an honor student if that makes any difference." I say looking down at the bowl infront of me.
He laughs. "Ofcourse it does Mackenzie, thats incredible."
"You can call me Mac dad." I grumble.
He nods. "You're different now. Its that boy, isn't it?"
I roll my eyes. " You left six months ago. Did you expect me to be the same happy little girl when you got back?"
"No"
I smile. " I'm glad your here okay. Its just going to take me some time to get use to everything."
I slide off the chair and walk towards the door. I look back at my dad who obviously knows where I'm going.
"Don't stay too long okay. We need to talk about something." he says calmly.
I nod and walk out the door. Jake's on his porch waiting for me. He smiles and wraps his arms quickly around my waist.
"Where are they going to meet us?" He asks.
"The comic book store by the market. I know my friends are total nerds." I tell him.
"You know they don't like me Mac."
"Thats not true. Its only Jace. Once he sees how awesome you are. He'll love you as much as I do." I tell him without realizing the words that just came out my mouth.
"you love me?"
I nod.
"I love you too Mac." he says and presses his lips against mine.
So we walk to the comic store. Hands entwined. Somehow I could feel Jakes heart beating or maybe it was mine. He was nervous. I could see it all over his face. He had no reason to be. If they didn't like him. I wouldn't care. I would always choose him.
