(Before Allison called)

I'm sitting on my bed when I get a call from the police department. They have been on Garrets case ever since the day he died.

"Hello?" I ask calmly.

"Austin. We have some news." Says a deep voice on the other side of the phone.

"Okay. What is it? Do you know who killed my step-brother?"

"Yes, it wasn't the spirits. It was Chelsea Rayne."

I couldn't believe what I heard.

"Chelsea Rayne? As in the Chelsea Rayne that was reported dead years ago?" my voice was shakey.

"Yes."

Right when I heard that word. I hung up.

"Chelsea Rayne..." I whispered to myself. "But how?"

Chelsea Rayne is the mother to my best friend, Allison. Allison barely remembers her mom. All she remembers is her name and the day she 'died'. How was I going to tell Allison? I sat on my bed, crying at the thought of my best friends mom, killing my step-brother. And that's when my phone begin to vibrate and ring.
I cautiously pick up my phone and answer it.

"Hello?" I answer, trying my hardest not to sound upset.

"Austin? What's up? Why aren't you here?" Allison asked, sounding worried.

"I'm not coming." I say plainly.

What am I suppose to tell her? That I'm not coming because it's the place that your mother killed my step-brother?

"Austin, I know it's hard for you to come back, it's hard for me, but you have to face your fears, I am."

"I don't know, Allison. I can't."

"You can. I'm coming to pick you up."

"But-" I began to say, but then the line went dead.

I sigh, not wanting to face Allison. I knew she was going to make me come out. I didn't want her to see me like this, but I couldn't stop crying. Even if I tried.

There's a banging at my door and I know for sure that it's Allison. I wanted her to think I wasn't home, but she knows me too well. I hear a knock at my window and notice Allison picking up a another rock, but before she could throw it I call her, causing her to drop the rock.
"Hello?" she answers, looking down at the ground.

"Please just go away, Allison. I don't want to come with you." I say rudely.

And that's when I notice her look up at the window.

"Please Austin? We don't have to do anything stupid... If that's what you're afraid of."

"I'm not coming, I already told you that."

I set my phone on my bed, forgetting to hang up. I began shuffling around, looking for my shoes. Once I find them, I put them on, grab my phone, and walk down stairs to the front door. I arrive at my front, talking a deep breath before opening it. Once I gather myself together, my hand was already opening the door, like it had it's own, it didn't even make sure I was okay with it. How rude. As soon as my door opened, Allison looks straight at me, hanging up the phone she walks towards me. Embracing me into a hug.

"Please come Austin." she says, looking into my sad eyes.

"Austin? What's wrong? Why does it look like you were crying?" she asks.

And there's that question I dreaded most to hear.

"Nothing, I'll... I'll come with you. Just, can we not go in if Jake wants us too?" I stutter, saying it out of panic.

I grab my coat, and walk towards Allisons car. She had a chevy cruze, a car that I've always wanted. I sit in the passengers side, scared of what might happen.

"Austin, please, tell me what's wrong." Allison breaks the silence.

"Allis-" I start to say, but was then interrupted by her.

"Please? You use to tell me everything. Why can't you tell me this?"

"Fine." I huff in annoyance. "The whole Garret thing... I know who killed him."

"Yeah, so do I. The spirits in the clock tower." I notice her roll her eyes, something she does quite often.

I have to tell her, I can't keep it from her. She has to know.

"No, it wasn't spirits. Allison. It was your mom."

She slams on the break, gets out, and starts to walk towards the curb. I notice she's crying, but not because she's sad. I needed to get out and help her understand better. She needed a shoulder to cry on, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't want my shoulder, since I'm the reason she's crying.

Once I reach her I place my hands on her shoulders and we both make eye contact. Her eyes filled with tears.

"How? How do you know that? My mom is dead!" she screams, causing me to jump a little.

"No she isn't Allison." I say, scared of what is going to happen.
