A few days later, Dani found herself on the phone talking to Avalon about her week. She told her about the first day Blake came to the diner and about him asking for her number. She even explained how he had come back to the diner over the last few days, once again asking her to sit with her. The pair talked for as long as Dani allowed, seeing as how she was on the clock during their short meetings, which lasted about a half an hour.
During those meetings, the two talked about themselves and whatever else they were interested it. Dani couldn't be any more grateful for getting that half hour of relief to talk to Blake. It was the highlight of her week, being able to talk to someone and not have to worry about anything else, even if it were only for a little while.
"I can't believe you waited this damn long to tell me about this. I can't believe any of this," Ava said loudly into the phone.
"I didn't really have the time to tell you, Ava. I've been busy working."
"Yeah, busy working on Blake. Wait until I tell Cam about this, he is gonna lose his damn mind. God, this is too good." Ava went on, causing Dani to laugh.
"How have you been, Dani? Really?" Ava asked suddenly.
"I'm fine, mom, stop worrying about me. The days have actually been more bearable since Blake has been showing up." She admitted honestly.
Ava made a weird screeching noise. "Y'all are gonna be so cute, I can see it now. When you think he's gonna propose?"
Dani laughed again, rolling on her back on the bed. "Girl shut up, nobody is proposing anything." As soon as the words left her mouth she felt her phone vibrate against her cheek. She looked at the name Blake flash across the screen.
"That's actually him texting me right now," She told her best friend.
"WHAT DID HE SAY?"
"First off, chill. And he asked why I wasn't there today. I forgot to tell him that I have Fridays off," she said biting her lip.
"Call him now," Ava demanded.
"But I'm talking to you..." Dani countered playfully.
"I swear to God, Danielle, I will-"
"Okay, okay. I'll call him." She said, laughing. "I'll talk to you later."
"You better!" Ava yelled through the phone.
Dani hung up and called Blake, the phone ringing only twice before he picked up.
"Hello?" He breathed. Even his phone voice was attractive.
"Hey. I got your text."
"Yeah, it was boring without you. I was expecting you to be there, flicking fries at me." He laughed.
She gave a laugh of her own. "I forgot to tell you I don't work on Fridays. It's my only day off."
"You have only one day off every week?"
"Yeah, I try to get as much done as I can."
"So, what are you doing today?" He asked.
"Nothing, actually. I've been laying in bed all day."
He cleared his throat. "You should come over."
Dani raised her eyebrows in surprise. "Seriously?"
"Yeah, why not? I'll send you the address."
Dani agreed and they both said their goodbyes. Blake texted her the address as she hopped in the shower to get ready. She decided to throw on a UCLA hoodie, a pair of shorts and some flip flops before straightening her short hair.
She texted Ava to let her know what was going on, before grabbing her bag and walking out into the living room. Her mom was napping on the couch while an old tv show played on the television. Dani planted a kiss on her mother's forehead before slipping out of the door.
As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, Marshall noticed her and waved her over to his desk.
"Where are you headed?" He asked once she reached him. Dani could've sworn he was a psychic.
"If you must know, I'm going to meet a friend."
He narrowed her eyes at her. "Would this be the same friend you've been seeing at work?"
"You know what, Marshall?" She laughed. "I'm gonna leave now."
"You know I'll find out one way or another." He said, grinning.
"Which terrifies me. I'll see you later Marsh."
"Bye Dani. Tell your friend hi for me." He said as she walked out of the door.
Dani got into her old Honda Accord and followed the directions on her phone. She pulled up to one of the largest houses she had ever seen in person.
"Jesus Christ..." She muttered to herself, parking in the driveway. Dani hopped out of the car and walked to the front door.
"Here goes nothing," she whispered, ringing the doorbell.
She could hear the echo of the doorbell from the outside and a muffled "be there in a minute."
Within seconds, the door swung open and Blake stood there in all of his glory, wearing a pair of black track pants and a t-shirt that defined all of his muscles.
"Hey," he said, forcing Dani to tear her eyes away from his chest.
She cleared her throat as he smirked. "Hey," she said walking in.
Blake closed the door behind him. "Welcome to my humble abode," he said, making her crack a smile. So dorky.
"This place is amazing," she said looking around, as a cute brown dog came running up to her. Dani immediately got excited and started rubbing the dog's ears. "I didn't know you had a dog! What's his name?"
Blake chuckled at her overexcitement, standing over her. "Chaney."
"He is literally the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life," She said getting up.
"Now that he's done stealing all the attention away from me, how about I give you a tour?" He asked.
Dani smiled widely as he grabbed her hand, "Great."
