"So what do you have planned for today?" Dani asked Blake as they were sitting on the couch, bellies full from breakfast.

"Well," he started. "I wanted to take you to the beach-"

"Really?" At this, her eyebrows shot up and her eyes brightened.

Dani couldn't mask her excitement. She loved being at the beach, especially when she was younger. It was a freeing experience for her, being surrounded by the never-ending ocean. Running around in the sand and playing in the water was one of her favorite memories of childhood. But with all the things she had going on in her life, Dani never really had time for it. Until now.

Blake chuckled at her childlike expression. "Yes little Dani." He said in a babying voice.

"Why are we just sitting here? Let's go." She started as she began to get up, but he grabbed her arm, pulling her down onto his lap.

"What do you think you're doing? You're sick."

"So? I'm fine." She said, even though she was physically struggling to hold in a cough.

Blake shook his head. "No you aren't. We'll just stay here and chill until you get better. We can go another time."

Dani rolled her eyes, pulling herself off of his lap and sitting as far away on the couch from him as she could. She poked out her bottom lip and crossed her arms. He looked at her, an amused smirk forming.

"Fix your face."

"You're not my daddy." She told him and stuck out her tongue, sounding even more like a little kid.

Blake raised an eyebrow, his smirk shifting slightly. "Oh, I'm not?"

"No. You're not."

"You sure about that?" He asked, licking his lips and making his way over to her. Right when he was about to place his lips onto hers, Dani put her hand directly in front of his face.

"I don't think so. I'm sick, remember?" She said with a sarcastic smile.

Blake rolled his eyes and pulled her into him. "Just wait," he whispered in her ear. "When you get better, we can do whatever we want."

Dani remained silent. She couldn't help but take his words for a deeper meaning. She knew he was referring to her cold, or whatever it was, but she thought farther than that.

Was she ever going to be 100% cancer free? Or was this illness going to continue to take over her life? The questions ran through her mind as she laid there with Blake.

"What's wrong?" He asked after a few moments of silence.

Dani just shook her head and stayed quiet, still deep in thought. She started thinking about how drastically her life changed in the past few days. A month ago - shit, a week ago - she wouldn't have thought she would ever be in the position she was in. Staying in the home of a professional basketball player was never in her list of goals to accomplish in life.

Yet here she was with Blake, laying with him on his expensive couch in his huge house. She was surprised, though extremely grateful, that he had opened up his home to her, especially since they hadn't know each other long.

It made her even more attracted to him, to know that he cared about her enough to do something like that. She felt herself falling for him as the seconds ticked by and wondered if he felt the same.

"Don't bust a brain vessel," Blake said, pulling her out of her thoughts. "What are you thinking so hard about?"

Dani let out a string of coughs, each sounding worst than the last, and shook her head again.

"Seriously, Dani. What's wrong? You know you can talk to me about it."

She smiled to herself. She thought it was cute that he was always concerned, even though it got annoying sometimes. But it showed that he cared, which was important to her.

"I'm fine, Blake. Stop worrying all the time, you're stressing me out." She looked up at him, smiling playfully.

He smiled back, his grip tightening slightly. "I just want to make sure you're doing okay. You know I care about you right?" She nodded, eyes still focused on his.

"You're really beautiful." He mumbled, causing a blush to rise to her cheeks, butterflies fluttering around in her stomach.

"I know this is kind of cliche, but I've never met anybody like you. You're perfect, Dani and I really want to be with you."

It was as if time stopped and her heart dropped into her stomach. She wasn't expecting that. Actually, that was the last thing she expected, believe it or not. She knew he liked her, but she didn't think he really wanted to be with her. Did he not realize what he would be getting himself into?

"I, um." She started, not knowing what to say. Blake looked at her with hopeful, expectant eyes. She wanted to evaporate right then and there.

"I have to pee." Dani said before getting up and leaving the room.

Blake sat there dumbfounded and tried not to regret the words that came out of his mouth.
