Three Weeks Later:
Following the death of Reaper, Overwatch realised they had to lay low. With the revelation that the Sombra Protocol and Talon were working in unison, it somehow felt like the entire world was working against the small group of heroes. This did, however, come with its advantages, with the flurry of missions almost completely stopped, you and the other agents had more time to unwind. It had been exactly three weeks since your return to Site B from Nepal and King's Row and you felt your eyelids slowly lifting to the sight of the morning sun. With the comfortable furnishings around you, you felt as if you were living a life of luxury. Of course that wasn't the reason you'd originally joined Overwatch but it was a plus and you were perfectly happy to enjoy it while it lasted. You rubbed your eyes and yawned loudly before pulling the covers off the bed. Looking to your right, you noticed the other side of the bed empty meaning Lena was already up and about. Typical.
After getting changed and taking a shower, you poured yourself a quick bowl of cereal and sat at a small two seat table positioned by the large windows of the penthouse. It wouldn't matter how many times you stared out of the window or how long for, you'd never quite get used to that view. Los Angeles truly was a beautiful city, especially from this height where you could spy everything from the distant suburbs to the towering skyscrapers. You took a sip of fresh orange as you took it all in, breathing a long sigh of relaxation. It was then that you heard a familiar sound, a sort of whooshing noise akin to the effect of wind but artificial in nature. You smiled a little and pressed a button on the wall without getting up from your seat, causing the apartment door to open automatically. Didn't want to see a blue flash and hear a thwacking noise just outside, did you?
Several seconds later, a trail of blue energy zoomed into the room, knocking several plastic cups off the main dining table as it made its way towards you. You stood up from your seat just in time to get tackled into a hug, shoving you into the nearby wall as you chuckled knowingly. The blue light quickly shifted into the familiar form of Lena Oxton, the woman you had grown to love. After several seconds of a warm embrace, you separated and found your heart melting at her adorable grin.
"And where have you been?" you asked with a smile as you carried your empty cereal bowl to the sink.
"Went for a morning jog luv" she replied in an innocent voice.
"Meaning?" you continued in a knowing tone.
"Three laps of the city" she answered sheepishly.
"Do you ever run out of energy?" you found yourself saying, even though you knew the answer by now.
"You give me energy luv" she said sweetly "now what do you want to do today? Looks like we've got it to ourselves...again".
"Hmm, well we could take a gentle...and I mean gentle stroll in the park, maybe do a bit of shopping, have tea out?" you suggested, listing the things that would make an enjoyable day for you. Lena nodded and took your hand with a smile. From that mischievous grin, you knew that the word gentle would not find its way into your day.
The pair of you walked carefree through the park, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. The cherry trees and towering oaks were in full bloom, glistening in the sunlight. You strolled hand in hand, delighted by every little detail around you; the chirping birds, the rustling leaves and the faint trickle of a distant fountain. Ever since you'd met Lena, your life had been far from tranquil, but you never minded, that simply made these rare moments of peace all the more treasured. You shared a look, her hazel eyes looking up into yours, but no words were needed, the looks on your faces were enough to convey the message.
"You wanna go to the mall next? Shouldn't be as busy right now" you suggested as you passed through the iron archway of the park.
"Sure luv, long as I'm with you" Lena replied, snuggling up closer to you as your arms linked tightly.
