The journey back to Site B was relatively uneventful. Jack had called for an additional dropship and Winston had taken the trip to inspect Reaper and ensure he truly was dead. You could never be too careful with the man that crawls out of his own grave. Athena's scans and Winston's own gut instinct were enough to tell, Reaper wasn't coming back. During the return trip, Jack sat silently while staring down at his pulse rifle. Winston had decided to leave him to his thoughts and kept watch in the cockpit, leaving you and Lena sat in the back of the dropship. That last fight had really taken it out of both of you. The normally restless time traveller was finally stopping for a rest with her head on your shoulder. It was only now that the two of you began to realise just how close the duel had been. Every few seconds you would relive it in your head; Lena being held breathlessly by the Talon agent and you remembering about your second pistol in the nick of time. Neither of you wanted to think about what would have happened if you hadn't been so quick, if you hadn't reacted in time. It didn't bear considering.
You arrived at Site B late, without a watch you'd guess around midnight but nonetheless you were exhausted. Lena had already fallen asleep on your shoulder and you had to gently shake her awake as the dropship landed on top of the block of flats in stealth mode. She woke with misted eyes and looked up at you with confusion.
"Wha-" was all she could manage as she slowly picked herself up.
"We're home Lena, time for a bloody long rest" you explained in reply as you helped her to her feet.
"Thanks, ugh I'm so tired"
"Don't worry, warm bed and fluffy pillows are inbound".
Lena chuckled a little as the two of you slowly strolled off the docking ramp of the invisible dropship. Winston quickly caught up with the two of you and tapped you on the shoulder.
"Just to let you know, while you were away in Nepal I managed to organise separate rooms for you two. Who'd have thought that an apartment block had an excessive amount of bedrooms" he reported in his usual friendly manner. Lena looked at you sadly before awkwardly trying to avoid your gaze. Truth is, you already knew your answer.
"I appreciate the effort but...I think we'll manage thanks" you replied causing Lena to smile up at you.
"Are you sure? Well there is a penthouse apartment with plenty of room, I was planning to set up a lab there but honestly I can work anywhere. Why don't the two of you take that, you've certainly earned a good rest" Winston suggested as you all entered an elevator.
"That's very generous, thank you" you answered. A few seconds later the elevator reached the uppermost floor and you and Lena got out to head to your new apartment. You jokingly saluted Winston goodbye as the elevator doors closed leaving the pair of you stood alone. You slowly started to fumble around with a set of keys that Winston had given you ad Lena suddenly walked up and tightly embraced you. You were a little taller than her and had to look down but as you did you stared into her hazel eyes and felt as if you could lose yourself in them. After a very long couple of seconds you locked lips and remained that way for what felt like an eternity. By the time you parted, both you and Lena were breathless.
"So much better when I'm not dying" you commented provoking a big grin on her face. She tightly hugged you once more before the two of you entered the apartment, hand-in-hand.
Your new home was absolute luxury, despite being the Site B of Overwatch you and Lena had actually managed to acquire an upgrade. Of course you wouldn't hear the sound of waves lapping up on the rocks anymore from the window but the view was incredible. A million tiny lights slowly moved around down below but here up above the streets of LA, the air was silent. A peaceful serenity that you hadn't experienced once since joining Overwatch. While many in the organisation would see Lena as a handful you could see that underneath all of her energy was a warm and kind personality. And you couldn't wait to get to know her.
