Orlando's POV

I watched as Jax walked away from my house. I didn't even say anything to him. I didn't say goodbye. I could have, but I was appalled by what had just transpired. Jax and I were fine until my mom decided to appear on the scene.

I'd finally told someone else the real reason I left my hometown and it had felt good. Amy had asked before, and I'd of course spun a lie. With Jax, I couldn't lie. There was just something with him, something that convinced me I could trust him. Maybe I thought because he was battling his own demons he would understand. I don't know. The moment was just serene enough for me to talk.

His reaction to the revelation wasn't surprising. I'd had no expectations when I told him, so I wasn't at all surprised. A part of me was however, disappointed. I'd seen the turmoil in his eyes. He didn't know whether to believe me or not. He didn't know what to say or what to do. I'd planned on finding out what was going on in his mind, but then mom got there.

Her reaction to his presence was unsettling. She'd practically kicked him out. That shocked me enough for me not to say anything to him. Even if I eventually decided to say something, it would have been futile. Jax was already gone.

"Mom, that wasn't nice," I said as she grabbed my wheelchair, intent on wheeling me inside. "I can move by myself," I retorted.

She reluctantly let go and we moved into the house.

"What wasn't nice?" she asked as we entered the house.

"...The way you talked to Jax," I said.

"What was wrong with what I said? It is getting late. I'm sure his parents must be worried about him...though..." she said and put her hand on her chin. "I doubt his parents care all that much about him."

"Mom!" I said.

"What? Did you see the way he dresses? And that tattoo! That's appalling. What kind of parent in their right mind would let their kid get a tattoo?" she said.

I didn't have an answer to that so I stayed quiet.

"Orlando you can't hang out with him. He's..." she said and shook her head. "Something isn't right about him."

"You have got to be kidding me!" I snapped.

"He isn't the right kind of friend for you!" she stood her ground.

"Who is the right kind? Jasmine?" I yelled. If of course didn't normally yell at my mother, but the issue at hand was really personal.

"Yes!" she said, nose stuck in the air,

I chuckled, quite unpleasantly. "Jasmine and I have nothing in common."

"You'll find something you both enjoy. She's better than that trash you brought here. Where did you even meet him? Bet it was at that trash school!"

I couldn't believe my ears. "Mom you were in his presence for 2 minutes! You don't know him"

"I already know he's bad for you. Who warned you about Cheryl? Huh? Who told you if you kept hanging around her you'd get in trouble?"

Of course she'd bring up that one incident. I knew the moment it happened that I would never be able to get away from it. I couldn't escape it even inside my own home.

"I'm just going to leave this conversation as is," I said calmly.

"I'm sorry baby, but you need to face the facts. Cheryl took you to that party. If you hadn't gone to that party..."
