I'm so sorry

Lotor's above him, pointing his sword at his chest, and from his position on the floor- armour digging into his flesh- with his bayard activated a pointing at the Galra bastard he can't help but grin.

He makes sure the barrel never moves away from the perfect angle to blow his brains out.

"You know, you still seem to surprise me, even now Lance." Lotor's grin is manic almost- Lance's betrayal is apparently the last thing he needed to push him over the edge, "To think you were betraying me from the start... It was so obvious and I even had my doubts but seeing you with your beloved... so harsh and cold. That's what really sold me."

"Well I'm glad my acting skills payed off then. Your highness." He spits the word and its filled with blood and spite.

"I just want you to know, the second you pull the trigger is the exact same time I put my blade through your heart. Nobody wins here Lance. Any last words?"

He thinks of a hundred and one scenarios, a hundred and one different things to say and thousands and thousands of things he should of said but never did, "Didn't anybody ever tell you to never bring a knife to a gun fight?"

The pain of the sword entering him is suppressed by the welcomed sight of Lotor falling dead, a massive hole through his face.

As they performed their final sweep, the Paladins made sure all the prisoners were on escape pods before making their way to the command centre of the ship. Their sombre and militaristic mode broken by a gun shot ringing out just a ways a head of them before everything seemed to stop.

Even though the siren blared and the pounding of metal feet on a metal floor thundered behind them it was like there was nothing. Everything seemed still in that second- still and very much dead.

There was only one possible person on the ship that wasn't a Galra bot that could of used a blaster. And it really, really made everything worse if it wasn't a Galra bot that just shot off a blaster by mistake.

But of course, they're robots. They don't make mistakes like that.

Lance.

It had to be Lance.

They hadn't seen him since the last time he happened to be on the same cruiser as Lotor. That had a deca-phoeb ago.

If Lance was on this ship, did it mean there was some kind of secret that was hidden here? From their gathered intelligence the ex- Paladin was Lotor's right hand man and oversaw the most sensitive if information for the Prince.

They had to get to him. Because he's a vital information source is what they told themselves, because you miss him and want to save him was what really went through their minds.

Without hesitation or discussion they began running that way then, forcing their way through the door that was stuck not fully closed. Pidge, the first one there, let out something akin to a dying animal when they took in the sight of the room.

Lotor's body was sprawled, lifeless, on the floor with a large ,still, smoking hole through the centre of his forehead. Closer to the door lay Lance's body.

Bayard deactivated at his side in his limp hand, blood trailed down his chin from where it poured from his mouth and the sight that had caused her wail was the sword standing tall and proud from his chest.

Dear God, they'd killed each other. For whatever reason the two of them had killed each other.

And then Pidge heard it, the groan.

And then Pidge saw it, Lance's chest had just risen slightly.

All inhibitions and hatred and fear was gone in that next moment as they threw themselves through the door, the only thought of getting themselves to Lance. Because it was Lance and he was bleeding out to death on the floor and damn everything he'd done! He was still the same Lance that had smiled at them, laughed with them and comforted them whenever they needed it.

He was still Lance.

Pidge threw themselves forward to reach him, "LANCE!"
