ChapterTwo
To lift not one.
“YOLO!” Harry screamed in the empty ice cream parlor we sat in. He then proceeded to throw his ice cream cone at my face, the ice cream hitting my mouth and then landing in my lap. “Oh hell no, boy.” I snapped, holding in the giggles as I threw my cone at his face. He closed his eyes as the ice cream dripped down his face on to his shirt. I leaned back in my seat, holding my stomach as good pains shot through it as I laughed. Tonight had been the best night of my life, a care free night that I had been in desperate need of.
Running from Liam was just the start of all the fun. As I predicted, we saw him at the elevators. So, we ran together down the steps again. Once we made it to the front doors of the apartment building we saw Liam their too. I let out a shriek of giggles, Harry had to cover my mouth to keep them all in. “And you’re worried about me tipping Liam off about us?” he smirked as we watched him leave. And then we were young and free from then on. We pranced up and down the streets, screaming the lyrics to any song that came to our minds. We quietly walked together for awhile, hand in hand, the stars and moon the only light around us. Then we stumbled upon this ice cream place that was trying to close up, but once they saw Harry they had no problem letting us in.
“You know, Liam will probably notice you’re not on the couch.” Harry reminded me, quickly wiping the rest of the broken ice cream cone on the floor. I sighed, frowning that the night was coming to an end. “Lets go I guess.” I said glumly. I knew the night would probably end here, I would sneak in first, then Harry. As we approached the door to the parlor, Harry grabbed me by the waist, turning me around, then cupping my face in his hands and kissing me slowly. A tingling sensation ran through my body. “I just...couldn’t wait until this goodnight kiss.” Harry confessed to me. My heart raced a mile a minute, skipping a beat every time my eye caught his.
The next morning I woke up to Liam yelling at me. “I need to drive you to school in fifteen!” He shouted. I groaned and ripped the covers off me. I hadn’t gotten much sleep last night, all I could think about was Harry. I grabbed my bag out of Liam’s room and shut the bathroom door behind me quickly as I walked in. I changed in to the hideous school uniform I was forced to wear. My parents had thought it would be a good idea to send me to an all girl’s Catholic school. ‘You’ll love it.’ they had said. But it was completely the opposite. “Hey little duck.” Paige stepped in to the bathroom, smiling at me. I didn’t even remember how she came to call me little duck, but once she said it the name stuck. I looked at her through the mirror as she braided my hair skillfully to the side. “I wish I looked like you.” I confessed. Her brown hair hung just below her jaw, her brown eyes twinkling all the time. “No, little duck! You don’t want to look like me. I think it’s the other way around.” she said, resting her hands on my shoulders. My light brown hair looked perfect since she did it. My school didn’t allow make up, so my face was blank, my dark brown eyes reflecting off my slightly tan skin. “You’re gonna be late.” she told me. I turned around and give her a short hug, then bolting out the door and flying down the stairs to Liam waiting for me in his car.
“Oh look at little Marie.” he teased me, tugging on the long sleeved blouse I had on. “Shut up!” I sighed, letting a laugh escape, because I knew that I looked like a little girl in this outfit. Not at all close to seventeen years old. “Bye.” I mutterted as I hopped out of his car quickly, shutting the door so no one could see that he drove me to school. It was hard enough to have the last name Payne, and even worse to have a blood relation with Liam. All these girls would kill for that last name, but I thought it was torture. So if they found out that I had moved to live with the rest of the boys too, I couldn’t tell you how many girls would want to be my bestie. “How are the boys?” Jane, Paige’s younger sister who went to school with me, grinned as she walked up to me. I shrugged. “The usual,” I replied. I was hesitant to tell her that I was now living with the boys. Even though she was my very best friend at school, I know she couldn’t resist taunting everyone with the secret.
“Je’maple, Marie.” I said emotionless as I sat through another class of French. They thought it was important to teach us all french, along with modern math, European history, and writing skills. We got one choice of a class, and since I had a love of art, I chose sculpture.
My stomach swirled as I walked to my sculpture class. I knew something was going on judging by all the girls that had crowded around the door, some practically in tears at what they saw. I pushed through the crowd, walking in to see Louis. He was dressed in his usual striped v-neck shirt, he had skipped the suspenders, kahki shorts, and Toms. “What the hell are you doing here?” I said in a low growl as I walked up to him. “You forgot your lunch at home, love,” he chirped, holding up a brown paper bag. Because Harry is taking me out for lunch, I thought, snatching the bag out of his hands. “Thanks.” I muttered. “See you at home, babe.” he winked at me, walking into the sea of girls and disappearing. As soon as he left the questions started. The rumors tore through the crowd like a wave. You’re his love? You live with them? Babe?! Are you two dating? I just wanted to scream, and judging by the girls’ faces and silence, I think I had let one escape my lips without me noticing.
How dare he come in here and do this to me? Why hadn’t Liam come? Where the hell was Liam for this type of situation? But instead he sent Louis. Louis had always treated me like a princess, always did things for me, complimented me. But that was all at home, and I had hoped it would stay at home, obviously he didn’t want it to. “I am not dating him. So everyone leave!” I shouted. They all stared at me, not moving a single limb. “Leave!” I shouted again, the brown paper bag crinkled up since I was holding it so tightly. One by one the girls at shuffled out and went to their scheduled classes. “You didn’t tell me you were living with them.” Jane said, her face strong, but her eyes giving away how hurt she was by this. “Jane, I didn’t let anyone know.” I explained. “Well I would think that you would’ve told your best friend.” she scoffed, her arms crossed as she stomped away from me. Oh, the horrible things I could do to Louis right now. The horrible, scary things.
