[ Misunderstood: Ch. 3 ]
Jack had taken a seat at my left, Zach at my right, Daniel in front of Jack, and Jonah in front of Zach. "Hey, Hun." Jack said lazily.
"Don't call me that." I bit back, "Why are you even sitting with me?"
"I want to get to know you better. Is that wrong?" He sent me a small grin, and unwillingly, my heart rate sped up.
Zach looked at Jack, wanting to say something. Jonah sat there watching along with Daniel. Suddenly, the three girls from earlier came up. The blonde one, who I now know as Lucy, said, "Why are you guys sitting with her? You should come over to our table."
"No thanks." Jack waved them off.
Daniel shrugged, "I'd rather not." Zach just stayed put beside me, clearly not going anywhere, and I could tell, if Zach wasn't going, Jonah definitely wouldn't.
"You heard them, Lucy. Get your gang and skedaddle. They don't want to go with you. Or maybe you don't understand." I said icily.
She huffed, "Let's go girls. You guys aren't worth our time anyways." They turned heel and left.
"You're pretty brave. No one had the guts to talk back to those girls." Daniel said.
I shrugged, " I don't take crap from anyone."
"You seem a little cut off from everyone... is there a reason you're so.... stand-offish?" Daniel asked.
I turned away and sighed, "Why would you care?"
"I just-"
"I'll see you guys later." I cut in. Getting up, I took my tray to another table. Anywhere but those cursed boys. I sat down next to the boy in algebra 1. "Hey.." I muttered.
He looked up from his homework, "Hey."
"I'm Devilla..." I said.
"Corbyn." He responded, sticking his nose back into his work.
I ate my salad silently. As soon as my salad was gone, I stood up, throwing the rest of my food away and putting my tray back. I left, feeling 5, yes 5, pairs of eyes on me."Way to go Daniel." Jonah said.
Daniel shrugged, "At least I didn't call her 'hun.'"
Jack raised an eyebrow. "That's not the reason she left, pretty boy." Zach just stayed silent. He abruptly stood up and followed Devilla out of the cafeteria.
I was in the music room... alone. Just how I like.. I began to strum the guitar. I smiled and began to quietly sing "Now or Never." by Halsey.
I didn't seem to notice that the four boys from earlier were standing right in the doorway until they all began to harmonize with me. My face turned tomato red and I stood angrily, pushing my way out. "I can't believe you guys!" I spouted off. I felt invaded.
These boys had already been able to know so much about me and it made me anxious.
I then ran for the exit of the school. I'm ditching. This wasn't how my first day was supposed to go.
I hopped in my old Chevy Lumina and drove to the one place that gave me peace. It took me an hour to get there, but I didn't pay any mind.
I sat up at the top of Ridge Cliff, dangling my legs from the ledge. The view was breath taking. The horizon met the ocean ways out into the water and a cool sea breeze swirled around me in a calm breeze. The water was so blue and the sandy beach hundreds of feet below looked soft. I smiled.
But then there was a rustling in the branches behind me. I quickly turned around and saw the intruder. Let's say I wasn't pleased to see them.
