Chapter 11: My Hero
Nicole’s POV
When I come around, I’m startled to see my mother crying, my father trying to comfort her and my cousin battling with himself in the corner.
I attempt to sit up, but my body won’t allow it and I slump back down in defeat.
My father notices that I’ve started moving and rushes over to help me sit up.
Once I’m safely sitting I ask them outright,
“Did he change me?”
No one answers me for a while and I get a feeling there’s something they’re not telling me.
“Did he change me?!” I demand.
My father gives an unconvincing nod and my mother bursts into fresh floods of tears.
I take a deep breath and try to look on the bright side.
But I can’t find it in this situation.
A knock on the door brings everyone back to reality and I’m shocked to see Draco Malfoy standing awkwardly at the door.
“We’ll go now.” My father says and he leads my mother away.
Harry smiles at me and glares at Draco before following them out.
Draco smiles at me and walks into the room.
“Sit down.” I tell him, gesturing to the chair beside my bed.
He sits down and we lapse into awkward silence.
“What happened?” I ask him.
“He bit you.” Draco says, stating the obvious.
“What happened after I blacked out?” I ask.
“I knocked him out and brought you here.” Draco tells me.
“He didn’t . . . you know . . . bite you did he?” I ask.
Draco shifts uncomfortably and a look of pure horror crosses my face.
“I’m so sorry!” I tell him, tears flooding my eyes and streaming down my cheeks.
“For what?” He asks, desperately trying to console me.
“I got you changed.” I whisper.
“It doesn’t matter.” He says.
“I owe you, my life.” I tell him. “How can it not matter that I’ve made yours a living hell?!”
“I brought you something.” He tells me, trying to change the subject.
I give him a questioning look and he pulls out a small jewellery box from his pocket.
He hands it to me and I open it curiously.
Inside is the most beautiful bracelet I’ve ever seen, made from milky white stones and deep sapphire blue stones.
“Moonstone and lapis lazuli.” Draco tells me.
I shoot him yet another questioning look and he sighs deeply before explaining.
“Moonstone. It’s said to be calming to werewolves. And the lapis lazuli looks beautiful with it.” He tells me.
“Thank you so much.” I whisper.
He nods. “It’s ok. I have one too.” He tells me and he rolls up his sleeve, displaying a leather band incrusted with moonstone and lapis lazuli.
I smile.
“Well I’d better go.” He tells me.
My face falls and he chuckles.
“I’ll be back tomorrow. Promise.”
I nod.
He heads towards the door and he’s almost out when I whisper,
“Why?”
