"I'M NOT TALKING TO YOU ABOUT ANYTHING!" Max screamed as he left the tent.

"Max! Wait!" David called after him.

When Max turned around David saw tears streaming down his cheeks.

"It's none of your business David!" Max screamed.

"Max!" David grabbed the boys shoulders and stared directly into his bright green and watery eyes.

Max calmed down but pulled away.

"You can talk to me. I promise that nothing you tell me will be found out by the other campers." David told him.

Max nodded and walked back towards the tent.

David followed and sat on Max's bed.

"My mom... She cut me." Max slumped on the bed.

David pulled Max so he rested his head on his shoulder.

"What happened? Why did she cut you?" David asked.

Max sighed. "She killed my aunt... I saw too much..."

David gasped.

"She killed her?!?" David asked in terror.

"Ya... And almost killed me." Max said solemnly.

"Max... I'm so sorry." David said, pulling Max into a hug.

Max held back but soon relaxed.

Max heard David's heartbeat and it calmed him until he fell asleep.

David looked down at the sleeping child in his arms and smiled.

"I'll take care of you Max. No matter what." David said.

He didn't know what made him say it but he meant it.
