Bianca
Between the whole ex husband deal and wearing that romper... Mom isn't for the idea of divorce. She believes that once you're tied down, that's that. He can be the worst man in the world. She would never leave.
"Ex husband?" Mom questioned and Sally nodded her head as Percy and his sister emerged from the hall. "I'm so sorry. Did he die?"
"Don't be," Sally assured Mom. "And no, he's still alive. He turned into a drunk. And when he tried to throw a knife at Percy's head and threatened to kill Paige, that was the end of that. We split up and he went to jail for assault."
And it was small stuff like this that kept going on the entire night. Throughout dinner and after while everyone was talking and having a good time. Sally said we were more than welcome to stay the night. Were friends of Percy's after all. She trusted us.
So everyone was going to bed. Patrick and Clarisse were sweet and offered to take the couch. So, after rock paper scissors, I ended up on the floor and Josie was on the other bed in Percy's room. Nico and Percy were in the same bed, of course.
Well Josie was already passed out. I was half asleep, and I couldn't tell if Nico was awake or not as he was facing away from me.
Mom came into the bedroom and woke us up. Told us to follow her.
"What are we doing, Mom?" Josie asked our mom as she grabbed her purse.
"Were leaving." Mom told us. "I don't like this family. I don't want you guys anywhere around any of these people."
And no, Nico hasn't gotten around to telling Mom that him and Percy are dating. And it's not like they've been together for a few weeks. It's been almost a year. They're a couple months away from their one year anniversary. They had plans to move out together when Percy goes to college. They move in July. They're looking at houses now. They're down to like 3 that they know they can afford and like.
So Nico was trying not to look offended that Mom obviously didn't like his boyfriend.
"What?" I asked. "Come on, Mom. Percys a really cool guy. And he's really nice. Why can't we hang out with them? They were nice enough to take Nico in when they heard that you were dead."
Mom's first excuse was that Sally's been divorced twice.
"Uh, yeah." Nico confirmed for our mother. "The first guy she married so that Percy wouldn't be killed by monsters, and the second guy turned into an abusive alcoholic. Of course she divorced him. The first guy died. Well, he came back in a coma. But either way. Her first husband made Paige try and kill herself."
"It's dysfunctional!" Mom insisted and Nico just kind of laughed. He was defending his boyfriend and their family. And I really done blame him. Because Mom didn't have good reasons going on.
"And so are we!" My little brother argued. Which didn't sit well with Mom. "You died and dad shoved us into a hotel so we wouldn't age too fast! When we got out Bianca died and Josie was already dead! Josie got used to the 60s! You're used to the 40s, Bianca is all over the table and I'm used to now. You can't hate on Sally when you had three kids with a man you never intended on marrying or staying with."
"She had four of them!"
"Three of them are triplets!" Nico told Mom, who was off the wall at this point. And I expected this out of something. Because Mom does care that he won't be able to have kids. Even if she says she doesn't care, she does. It bugs her that there's not even a chance he'll be with a woman. "She didn't know Poseidon was going to have to leave her until after she got pregnant! Susan was born when Paul was still decent and they were happy."
Nico sighed.
"The point is," he tried to be civil about this. "That shit happens, Mom. People get together and they break up. Sometimes they have a kid in the middle of it. Sometimes it's a mistake, sometimes it not. But shit happens and you can't just ignore everything else because of that. Bianca's right. They're really nice people."
And as this argument went on and on between the four of us, Mom snapped at Nico. Had enough of his bullshit.
"How do you defend them so easily!?" Mom snapped, and Nico didn't even flinch. He knew she was mad. He knew she's been mad the entire day. "What's so important about them, Nico!? Why do you care so—"
She wasn't even allowed to finish her sentence.
"Because Percy's my boyfriend!" Nico returned her snap, and Mom was instantly silenced.
Because that was that. Nico did not want to fight with Mom about who his boyfriend was. She tried to pick at it.
"Oh my gods," Nico remarked. "Mom, I'm not arguing over this. If you want to talk, I'll talk. But you don't need to raise your voice at every little thing. It's the 21st century. Things have changed. Sorry to break the news to you. But I'm not going to fight about this."
Suddenly, one of the Jackson boys (they're identical and I didn't know what either of them were wearing right now, so I can't set them apart) came out and grabbed a water from the fridge. When he saw us, he did a double take. Must've still been half asleep or something.
"What one are you?" Josie asked him, and he was shirtless. Which... He didn't look half bad. Then again, I had this like immediate crush on Percy when we met him.
"Which..." He said. "Oh, Patrick. Sorry. I'm half asleep right now. Are you guys leaving? It's like... Midnight. Past midnight. 12:30."
Mom told Patrick she was going home. Something came up.
"Oh, okay." Patrick remarked, finding that a bit odd and turned to the three of us. "Are you guys staying?"
I panicked.
"What?" I responded before anyone else did. "Yeah, of course we are. Mom just got us up to tell us she was leaving so we didn't freak out in the morning."
And when Mom left, Josie slapped my arm.
"Ow!" I reacted, even though it didn't hurt. "What was that for?"
"Mom's gonna kills us tomorrow!"
Whatever. Either way, we went back to bed and woke up to the smell of amazing food. Percy was awake, and cooking. Sally was gone, and it smelled amazing.
"Oh my gods," I remarked as I walked into the kitchen. And then I saw Percy. "You cook?"
"Uh, yeah," Percy told me, as if that was a weird question. "I'm moving out in a couple months and I'm not living off of microwavable shit."
Fair enough.
Josie came out and got really excited.
"Who ordered Chinese!"
We both laughed.
"Nobody," Percy told her, as he took a shit ton of rice out of a pan and went to strain it. "I'm making breakfast. I was in the mood for some like... Not loaded with sugar."
Nico came out and Josie looked at our little brother.
"You're keeping him."
