35 : Best Friends

"Hey there, cutie," a guy said, leaning on the bar next to me. "Why don't we get out of here, go back to my place?" 

I leaned away from him. "Um, no thanks."

He came even closer, going as far as putting his hand on my thigh. "Oh, come on, babe. Let's have some fun."

Before I could say anything, a guy slid onto the bar stool next to me. "Hey, man," he said. "Sorry I'm late." He looked over at the guy that was still in my personal space. "Oh, who's this guy?" he asked, blue eyes filled with disgust. "I hope you're not going to ditch me on the one day I have off."

I looked at him in confusion, but something told me I should play along. "Of course not. He was just leaving."

"What?" the guy asked in confusion. 

"You're leaving," the blue eyed guy said. "Or am I going to have to forcibly remove you from my best friend?" he asked, glaring pointedly. The look in his eye scared even me, and I don't scare easily. 

The guy quickly removed himself from the bar and the blue eyed guy grinned at me. "That was fun!" he said.

I stared at him for a moment. "Why did you do that?" I asked.

"Well, at first I thought that you two were a couple, but then I saw that slimy grin on his face and that you were uncomfortable, so I decided to do something about it," the guy replied. "So, you are now my new best friend." He smiled widely.

I smiled. No one had ever done something like that for me before. "Well, how can we be best friends if we don't know each other's names?" I asked, amused.

He stuck his hand out. "I'm Will."

"Nico," I replied, shaking his hand.

We sat in silence for a few moments.

"Sooooo," Will said. "What now?"

"How about we get out of here?" I suggested. "I don't really feel like getting hit on again." I got up and headed for the door. Will caught up to me and threw an arm over my shoulder. 

"I can tell we're going to be great friends," he said.

We did. For a long time, we were best friends, but after a while, that ended.

It ended the day he kissed me.

And I kissed back.
