i'd love for you to be here
i couldn't, jj
why not?
because i'm very awkward and shy, it wouldn't work out
i have a mate that's the same way, you two would get along great!
you can't really stick two socially inept people together.
oh for fucks sake, just come to mine!!
jj...
joshua. i demand you to.
fine..
JJ then texted me his address, which I quickly drove to. I was nervous about meeting new people and seeing JJ for the second time in person. My hand trembled as I lifted it to the door to knock.
I gulped down my nerves as I waited for someone to answer the door. It did take awhile, but I was eventually met with who I was assuming to be one of JJ's mates.
"You a friend of Jide's?" the boy asks softly. I could already tell this was the boy JJ told me of.
My mouth parted as I stared at the human in front of me. His blonde hair was perfectly quiffed, his ocean blue eyes avoiding any contact with my dark green ones, his jaw clenching as the silence thickened.
"Y-yes," I finally answered, "I am."
"Come in," the boy replies, moving out of the door frame to make way for me. I gave him a polite smile before turning my head to face the small crowd that stood in the kitchen of the house. "There's drinks and snacks in the kitchen. Nothing's off-limits." I glanced back at the boy, only to notice he ran off as soon as he finished his last words.
I sighed, stuffing my hands into the pockets of my hoodie as I headed to the group of males.
Once I arrived, JJ announced my name quite loudly. I chuckled nervously, giving him a hand hug. I waved to everyone else, noticing the boy from earlier was stood behind everyone.
"Who's that?" I questioned to JJ in a quiet voice, discreetly pointing to the blonde. JJ chuckles and calls him over. I gulped once again, feeling like I was going to shit myself.
"Simon, this is Josh," JJ informs as he stares at the boy. "Josh, this is Simon." He gives me a teasing stare, smirking before wandering off.
"Why do you think he only introduced us to each other?" Simon quietly asks as he leans toward me so I could hear him better over the loud music.
"I-I don't know," I respond, playing with the hem of my shirt. Simon and I stayed quiet for the next five minutes. I felt like I was suffocating from how uncomfortable the tension was.
"I'm gonna get a drink," Simon informs, turning to walk off.
I place a hand on his shoulder to stop him, quickly saying, "I'll come with you." He nods with a soft smile, leading me towards the various beer bottles.
"You like beer?" Simon asks me as he hands me one. I crack it open, shrugging.
"It's not my favorite, but I can still drink it," I respond.
"Same," he chuckles, cracking his own bottle open. "How old are you?"
"21," I answer.
"I'm 20," Simon sighs, taking a swig. I nod slowly, it being the only response I could think of. The silence returned, except I was a bit more comfortable as I had a drink in hand and was closer to the crowd.
"Oi, who's this?" I heard a boy shout as he hooks an arm around my neck. He laughs in my face, making me scrunch up my nose as the strong stench of his Vodka mix lingered from his mouth with every syllable he spoke.
"I'm Josh," I reply, nearly jumping out of my skin when he about kissed me.
"Get off, Callum," Simon groans, giving the boy a shove. Callum scoffs then laughs, giving Simon a teasing eyebrow raise.
"What's your damage, Minter?" he spits.
"He's the new guy, give him some space," Simon retorts. Callum lifts his eyebrows up his forehead, turning dizzily to the other boys.
"Boys," he calls out, "Minter's talking." They all stop what they're doing and look over to Simon with shocked expressions.
"Who's the new guy?" one of the boys asks as their attention flicks over to me.
"That's Josh," JJ shouts, leaning on the boy, who had dark caramel colored skin and thick, bushy eyebrows. "He's single, fellas."
My palms start to sweat as I felt most of the stares turn hungry, my heart pounding. I had never been the center of attention at a party before, not even at my birthdays.
"I-I need some air," I announce, though I bet it was inaudible to more than half of them as I had to literally push past their bodies to reach the door.
I stepped to the side, shutting the door behind me. I stepped over to the few stairs that brought you to the little patio near the front door. I sat on the top step, running my hands through my hair slowly as I calmed my breathing and heart rate.
I can't believe JJ just put me on the spot like that. Especially to sell my body out to his friends. I thought he liked me. I mean, I liked him. But I'm just not so sure about that anymore.
My heart felt crushed. I had never gone through anything like this. Bullying, yeah. But to be thrown out to the public by a friend, one I fancied? Never. I didn't know how to cope with it.
We'd been friends for three months. I'd smiled like an idiot for three months. And all of a sudden, it felt like he was done with me. He stuck me with a friend of his and walked away. I've been with his friend for the entirety of my visit. I only came to see JJ.
So that's why I left immediately after collecting my thoughts.
