After watching the sunset on that same day, we both cuddled on the couch and watched Netflix. We'd steal occasional glances of each other, only meeting the other's eyes once in awhile.

"I'm bored," Simon sighs.

"Same here."

"I think I'm gonna go home and shower," he informs, sitting up.

"Okay, drive careful," I smile. He pecks my lips, standing up. He slips on his shoes and heads out the door, causing me to leap onto my feet.

As soon as I see he's pulled out of the driveway, I tug on my shoes and run out to my car. With my heart pounding, I drive in the opposite direction as Simon and speed into town.

I'm back home now, spreading out rose petals along the ground. I was creating a path to my backyard, where I had the fairy lights set up again. I had laid out a blanket yet again, which is where I would be stood once he came back to mine.

My plan was simple: stand and wait for him to follow the path outside, then when he opens the door leading to the garden, I'd begin my speech while I held a bouquet of maroon roses and a box that held a promise ring. I was going to ask the Simon Minter, who'd I fallen deeply in love with so quickly, to be my boyfriend.

I impatiently waited, tapping my foot as I checked my phone for any messages from Simon. This was the fifteenth time and it made me more anxious, as did every other time.

He'd been gone for over two hours now, which made my mind panic. He should've been back just as I finished my setup. Maybe he just forgot to text me once he got home and fell asleep after his shower.

Soon my phone rang, which I picked up so fast I didn't even glance at the caller ID.

"Is this Joshua Bradley?" a deep voice questioned as soon as I mentioned Simon's name in the form of a question.

"Y-yes," I gulp. The news finally reaches my eardrums, my hands trembling. The roses fall to the ground, my knees weakening.

"We'll send a squad car over to you now so you can say a final goodbye."

I hung up, dropping my phone beside the roses. My chest weighed a ton in this moment. I broke down, resting my forehead on the blanket. I punched the grass as I screamed out in pain. Neighbors rushed over to me, thinking I'd been attacked. Some walked away as I continued to sob and ignore their questions on what happened.

The world soon faded out, the words that came from the cop's mouth replaying in my head.

"Simon Minter was a victim of a hit and run, his condition fatal from the crash. He passed away just as we got there, and nothing could've been done to save him. I'm very sorry."

He said his car didn't even survive the crash. He had been hit head on by a semi, the driver able to run away from the scene but not far. They found him not too long after closing off the road, hiding under the bridge with a broken arm and glass lodged into his stomach.

He was the reason Simon's dead. He was delivering a shipment and pulled out his phone to double check he had the right address in his GPS, causing him to swerve into the wrong lane. Simon didn't notice as he must've been daydreaming, so he was unable to avoid the accident. But if he had swerve, even in the slightest, he would still be here. In brutal condition, yeah. But he would still be here. With me.

"His dying words were for us to call a Joshua Bradley and tell him he loved you."

I sobbed in one of my neighbors, Stefani's, arms. We had been good friends in primary school, but drifted apart when we grew up. She was always there for me when I really needed support, and somehow she popped back into my life unexpectedly when I needed someone the most.

Soon I was driven to the scene. I observed what was left of Simon's car, feeling a stab at my chest.

"Is he still here?" I choke out. The female officer that escorted me here nods with a sad expression on her face, then leads me over to a large black bag that was said to have contained my 'boyfriend's body pieces.

"I was going to ask you to be my boyfriend, you idiot," I mutter as I stare at the bag, sobbing harder as I cover my face with my hands. The female officer comforts me, then pulls me away from the bag and allows a few other officers to carry it to the trunk of an ambulance.

"Sir, we found something on his phone," an officer announces. "That boy may want to see this." I raise my head as I was able to hear his whispered words. The chief walks over to me, bending down to my height. He hands me the phone after reading it over. It was opened to his Notes app.

Plan for tonight is simple: Ask Joshua Bradley to be mine forever.

What to get:
- Roses
- The ring

And dress nice, Minter.
