16; Cherry Blossom

Beneath the blooming cherry tree
A blossom fluttered down to me

It slipped into my open hand
And rested there as light as air

And I wept for the past
As my heart travelled back
To the last time I held
Something so beautiful

Your hand -
It used to fit with mine

It was smaller, younger
But you did not mind

When we together walked beneath
Springtime blooming cherry trees

Blossoms caught your breezy hair
We breathed the sweetest late-March air

But when you dropped my hand
I squoze tighter
At nothing

You were gone

That fist stayed closed
It would not open
I missed you much
I felt so broken

Then I found hope
A'last unclenched my fist

For today the blooming cherry tree
Shared this secret thought with me

I must live with open hand
If another blossom is to land
