(2) Running Into You

It's been two weeks since Aaliyah saved my life. I haven't really seen her but we text a lot. I was sitting at the food court at uncle Ben's burgers in the mall with my best friend Jessica. School starts in one week and we've yet to buy or school clothes.

"Landy, are you listening to me?" Jessie questioned as she threw a French fry at me.

" What was that for?" I asked throwing the Fry right back at her.

" Did you hear what I said?"

" To be honest no I didn't. Why did you say Jessie?" she sighed.

" I asked are you going to Jacob Dunn's back to school party on Friday?"

" I don't know. I might have to baby sit Ev." she nodded understanding.

She knew about my mother not being there for us but she didn't know about the abuse before or now and I don't plan on telling her.

"Well what you got this year?" She asked wiping her face but completely missing the ketchup.

" You um. You got something.... Oh never mind" I said as

I reached over and wiped the ketchup of her chin.

"Thanks babe" she replied before she went back to eating her food. She waited for me to reply.

" Um I have Advanced lit, Chemistry, and pre cal."

I said throwing a Fry in my mouth.

" I don't understand how you're super smart but yet you can't pass chemistry"

"Hey hey hey" I said protesting "I did not fail chemistry. I simply just waited to the last possible minutes to take it. You know I'm no good at science"

Which is completely true. I've always been good at school but when it came to science I didn't have a clue. When I got to high school I made it my business not to take it unfortunately, now I need it to graduate.

"Well I have Economics, history and pre cal"

I was just about to comment on us having a class when I heard it. I heard an all to family voice. My head immediately snapped into the direction I heard it but I didn't see her. I shook my head thinking maybe my mind and ears were playing tricks on me. I looked up to see Jessie engrossed in what ever was happening on her phone. Then I heard it again. I turned my head to the right and that's when I saw her.

Her gorgeous red hair was in a messy bun, she had on a plain white tee shirt, light blue skinny jeans, and converse. God she looks amazing. I looked to the side of her she was with a little girl who looks to be 5 or 6. A younger sister I thought. The little girl looked just like her except she had long jet black hair and her skin tone was just a smidgen of a shade lighter than Aaliyah. The little girl was wearing a a white tee shirt as well, a plaid button down shirt wrapped around her waist, blue skinny jeans and some converse. They looked cute matching almost.

I got up and started making my way to her when I heard Jessie from behind me

" Where are you going?" She called out from behind me.

Shit I almost forgot I was with her.

"I'll be right back" I called back to her. Still making my way to Aaliyah in the semi crowd.

" Umm.. Aaliyah?"

She turned around with a shocked expression on her face but it changed when she recognized me
