It was just an ordinary Friday night. I was sitting at the couch, watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, waiting for Cara, my girlfriend of four years.
She had to go to the premiere for her new movie Valerian in London. She invited me to go with her, but I have a headache for a few days already, so I decided to stay home and rest.
When the movie ended, Cara wasn't home yet so I decided to take a quick nap. I grabbed a blanket and after a few minutes I was asleep.
I woke up from the door bell ringing. I slowly sat up and rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. I stumbled to the front door, still a bit sleepy. I looked at my watch and I saw that it was 2:00.
I opened the front door to be greeted by two police officers. "Miss Y/L/N? The girlfriend of Cara Jocelyn Delevingne?"
I nodded and wondered what was going on with Cara. "We have to tell you something, but I think that it is better if we tell it inside. You might want to sit down for this. Did you see the news in the last hour?"
I shook my head and I motioned for the two police officers to come in. I couldn't bring out any word. I was wide awake because I was worried for Cara.
"There was an incident on the red carpet of the Valerian movie premiere tonight. Two terrorists with guns came running onto the red carpet. Before someone could stop them, they shot everyone around them and I am afraid that your girlfriend was one of the persons close to the terrorists. I'm sorry to break it to you, but your girlfriend died immediately after she got shot. She got shot three times in the chest, but she didn't feel any pain."
You just sat there. You couldn't process what the police officers just told you. It was impossible. Your Cara couldn't be dead. She was so strong. You couldn't imagine your life without her. You felt numb, but at the same time you wanted to scream. It wasn't fair. Cara was a great person. Why did she have to die? There are so many bad persons out there and then the best person you know gets killed. Why is life so unfair?
You felt like you could start crying every minute. You barely managed to speak. "Can I see her? I need to see her. I need to know for sure that she I dead. That this isn't some sort of stupid joke. Please sir, I need to see her." You pleaded.
The police officer nodded and motioned for you to follow him. You followed them to their car and they brought you to the morgue.
The car ride was silent. You were deep in your thoughts. The police officers tried to talk to You, but you didn't feel like talking. You couldn't process what was happening. Your Cara couldn't be dead.
You finally arrived at the morgue and you quickly got out of the car. You waited for the police officers, and they took you inside with them. You just followed them into the morgue.
You finally arrived in the chamber Cara laid in. "Are you sure you want to go see her? It could be a bit traumatic. But if you want to see her you can go in and we can give you your time."
"I need to see her. I need to see with my own eyes that she is dead. I need closure if she really is dead."
They nodded and they opened the door for me. Hesitantly I walked inside the room. I wasn't ready for what I saw. Cara just laid there, pale skin and her eyes were closed. I almost looked like she was asleep. You couldn't handle it.
You broke down on the floor. You were crying hysterically and you kept screaming her name and that she needed to wake up.
You needed Cara in your life. She was your rock. She helped you with everything and you helped her with everything. She was your other half. You wanted to start a family with her. She had always been there for you but now she was gone.
You were still crying until you heard something. It was a voice, whispering your name.
"Y/N, baby, you need to wake up. Wake up baby. Wake up!"
You opened your eyes in shock and you almost fell of of the couch, if someone didn't catch you. You saw two arms holding you. You looked up and you saw that the arms belonged to no one other then Cara.
It was all just a dream! It was just a nightmare. Cara was alive and well and holding you.
You didn't know Why, but you started crying. Cara pulled you onto her lap and started whispering in your ear with concern laced in her voice. "Shh baby, it's okay. It was just a nightmare. You're okay. We're okay. Shhh everything is alright. We're in our apartment. You just had a nightmare. Do you want to tell me what you dreamt about?"
"It was horrible. You died. I didn't know what to do. I saw you laying in the morgue and it was so scary." You managed to get out in between sobs.
Cara just hold your tighter and stroked your back with her hand, while her other hand was tangled in your hair, playing with your hair because she knew that calmed you down.
"It's all okay baby. I'm alive and well and I'm not planning on dying anytime soon. You can't get rid of me that easily. I'm not planning on dying before I'm 90. I want to have a family with you first and I want to have grandchildren first. Otherwise I can't die. I love you to much to die. I would never leave you."
You calmed down after she was done talking and you looked up to her face and you softly kissed her. "I love you so much Cara. You can't imagine." You whispered to her.
She smiled at You, before holding you tighter. The two of you just sat there in silence, enjoying each other presence. Thinking about the future with each other. It was a perfect moment.
You could feel your hearts beating, and it was the best sound you had ever heard. You wanted to hear it forever. You needed your rock, your other half, your Cara.
"Shall we go to bed love? I'm kinda tired and I think you are too. It would be good to get a good night of sleep without nightmares for you. And now I'm there to protect you from the nightmares."
You just nodded and before you knew It, Cara lifted you up in her arms and carried you to your bedroom.
The both of you quickly got ready for bed and after a few minutes you were both laying under the covers.
Cara was holding you in her arms, while you were listening to her heartbeat.
"Goodnight Cara. I love You." You whispered to her. Cara softly pressed a kiss to your forehead and whispered
"Goodnight love. I love you. Very much."Before you knew it you were fast asleep inside Cara's arms. You didn't have a nightmare. Cara kept you safe the whole night.
