"Babe! Cara! Get down here! I have good news to share with you! Come down!"
You were waiting in the living room of the apartment you and your girlfriend of five years, Cara, shared. You just got off the phone with your dad and he had told you some exciting news you couldn't wait to share with Cara.
"What's going on babe? What news do you have?"
Cara asked you while looking at you with curiosity.
"I just got off the phone with my dad. You know that he has a girlfriend for quite some time already right? Well apparently, he proposed to her yesterday and she said yes! Their wedding is on the 12th of June, so in two months already and they want us both to be there! He even asked me if I could give a speech!"
"That's great babe! I will call my agent to make sure I can be there with you! I mean, I think I have a modelling gig on the 11th, but I will make sure that I will be back on time for your father's wedding. I promise."
"Okay, I trust you. But you better be there! I need you there with me. You know how much I hate speeches."
"I know babe, don't worry. I will be there."
(Time skip to the 12th of June)
It was fifteen minutes before your dad's wedding and Cara still wasn't there. You were starting to get worried. What is something happened to her? You were lost in your thoughts, thinking about all of the horrible things that could have happened to Cara which could explain why she wasn't there yet. She promised you that she would make it, which was the only reason you let her go to that stupid modelling gig anyway.
The abrupt, sharp ringing of your phone pulled you out of your thoughts. You looked at the caller id and saw that Cara was calling you. You could feel in your guts that you were not going to like this phone call, because the only reason she would call you now, is if something bad has happened.
You quickly answered your phone, already starting to get a little bit angry.
"Cara! Where are you? You were supposed to be here an hour ago already."
"I'm so sorry babe! I'm afraid I'm not going to make it. My flight just got cancelled because of the bad weather here, so I can't be there on time. The next flight leaves in five hours, so I will try to be there as fast as I can, but there is a possibility that I'm not going to make it at all. I'm so sorry babe. I love you."
"I can't talk about this right now. My dad's wedding starts in five minutes. God damn it Cara! You promised me you would be here! You were supposed to be here! You know how important this is for me. I will talk to you when you get home. I just can't right now. Bye. Have a safe flight."
With that you hang up the phone, feeling like you could burst out in tears at any moment now.
Why did she have to go to that stupid modelling gig. She knew there was a possibility that she wouldn't make it. And she went anyways. You took a few moments to compose yourself, before walking inside the room your father was getting married in in just a few minutes. You tried your hardest to still make the best of this day. You owed that to your father.
After a beautiful ceremony, your dad's girlfriend turned into your mother-in-law. Seeing them so happy made you forget about Cara for a minute, but then it came back even worse. You wish she was there with you.
Then it is finally time for your speech. You get ready by standing up and hitting your glass with your knife. Of course, you did it with too much force, which leads to small cracks appearing in the glass. You quickly put it back on the table, before too many people can notice the cracks in the glass.
To say that you're nervous is quite an understatement. You want to give your dad the best speech, because he deserves it, but for the first minute you're just standing there silently. Then you just start talking, feeling the nerves going away the longer you are talking.
At the end of your speech, you're pretty content with how your speech went. Your dad thanks you and says that he loved your speech. That's the only thing that mattered.
The rest of the evening goes by in a blur. You remember getting a text message from Cara fifteen minutes before you left the wedding, saying that she just landed and that she's going to your apartment. She also apologised again for not being at the wedding. You just ignore the message.
Then it's finally time for you to go home as well. You go look for your dad, to congratulate him and his new wife with their wedding again. They both hug you and tell you to go home safe.
After half an hour, your cab drops you off at your apartment. You don't want to go in because you know that Cara is there, but you don't have another choice.
You try to open the door as quietly as possible, hoping that Cara already went to bed, but unfortunately you have no luck. You can see her sitting on the couch, waiting for you, jumping up as soon as she heard you enter your apartment.
"Y/N, babe, I'm so sorry, I did everything I could to make it, but it was out of my power. I'm so sorry."
"Please don't Cara. I just can't deal with you right now. I'm sorry. You knew how important this was for me and my family. It was so embarrassing to keep on explaining why you weren't there. So, can you please just leave me alone. I'm so stupid for thinking that you would put me before your work for once. It's like you're in love with your work and not with me. And I'm tired of it. This is not the first time this has happened. The only thing I want from you is your love, time and attention. And if that's too much then we are never going to work."
"Y/N.... Please... you know I love you more than anything. I would drop everything if that would mean not losing you. You know that. I know I should have been there, I do. And I will never let it happen again. I promise. I'm so sorry. Please don't leave me. I need you. I love you. I love you so much. Please baby."
Cara grabbed your hands, looking at you with pleading eyes, on the verge of crying, while you were already full on crying at the moment.
"Please just shut up. I need to think."
With that you turned around, successfully freeing yourself from her soft grip, you grabbed your purse and went outside for a while.
After walking around the neighbourhood for around half an hour, you realised that you were being unfair to Cara, so you decided to go home immediately, to continue your conversation and because it was really cold outside and you felt like you were freezing.
You opened the door and the first thing you noticed was Cara, crying on your couch. Her heart wrenching sobs broke your heart and you could immediately feel tears starting to come up in your eyes as well. You quickly went to sit next to Cara and grabbed her hands, while wiping away her tears with your thumbs.
"Y/N? Baby? You came back? I thought you left me after all the times I broke my promises to you and didn't show up on the things that were important to you. I'm so sorry baby. really. Please believe me. I love you so much. I can't live without you. Please don't leave me. I need you."
"Cara, I could never leave you. I love you. I wanted to come back as soon as I left, but I realised that I just needed a little bit of time to cool down, before I would start saying things that I don't mean again. Yes, what you did hurt me. Of course, it did. You knew how important it was for me to have you there with me. But I also understand why you couldn't make it. I know you tried as hard as you could and that you did everything in your power to try and make it on time, but sometimes things just don't go as planned. And I shouldn't have blamed you for everything. It wasn't your fault. And I'm sorry. I love you so much. And I know that you're trying. I do."
Instead of saying anything, Cara just grabbed my cheeks and kissed me. And in that moment, everything was perfect. I remembered again how much I loved this girl and that I could never ever let her go. She was my soulmate, my everything. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach flying around, creating a whirlwind of emotions, and I've never felt happier.
Finally A new update! I'm so ,so, so, so, sorry it took so long! I just have a lot of stuff going on at the moment, which is why I don't update that much. I hope you enjoyed this one! Please vote and comment! That would really mean a lot to me. Thank you for reading. I really hope you liked it!
