I Dreamt About the Past

It was 8 years ago when I first met him.

" Skeith come here! " I heard my older sister call my name.

" Coming~ ! " I cried out as I ran towards the living room. I saw my sister sitting on the sofa but she wasn't alone. Beside her sat a handsome boy, which was about fifteen years old.

" I'd like you to meet someone. " my sister said with a grin as she saw me enter the room.

" Who's that? "

" He's my boyfriend. "

" Oh. Okay. "

" Hey say something. " I heard my sister whisper to the guy beside him.

" Uhmm. Hey! Nice to meet you. I'm Blaire. I'm only fifteen. I know it's a bit too young for your sister but I love her. I hope that you're okay with us going out. " Blaire said as he grinned at the little boy in front of him.

" Hey Skeith, introduce yourself. " I heard my sister say.

" I'm Skeith and I'm only eight. Please be nice to my sister or else... " I said as I made a threatening pose.

Blaire laughed at my gesture and said, " Yeah sure boss. I'll be sure to take good care of her. "

I felt my body float in mid air as Blaire tried to carry me. I struggled a bit because I was surprised at what he did.

" He sure is nice... and friendly. " I thought to myself.

That day was the first time I met Blaire. He always came to our place everyday. He never fails even if there's a storm or if he's sick. He always accompanied me at home because my sister's always late because of work. My parents weren't around either because they worked over seas. Blaire was my only friend and companion during those times. I always thought that he would be the perfect brother for me. I always bugged my sister asking " When are you getting maried? " and stuff like that. I really loved him as a brother. He was so kind and gentle.

" Why do you like my sister? " I heard myself ask one day.

" Hmm. Let me see. Maybe because she has a nice smile. It always makes my day bright. Also, she never complains. Being like a mother to you seems really hard but she still manages to put on a smile everyday. " He replied as he stared from a distance. His thoughts seemed to be filled with my sister.

" You really like her, huh? "

" Hmm... Yeah. Seems like it. "

I thought our bond would never end. That we would stay like that forever. I really thought that he would marry my sister and become my older brother. Then, the three of us would live like a family. But I was wrong.

On that day, everything changed. Our lives changed. Our fates changed. All of my hopes changed.

On that rainy day, Blaire was supposed to pick me up but couldn't make it so my sister went instead. I told her that she didn't need to bother. That I can go home on my own but she didn't budge. She still insisted to fetch me so I waited. I waited for her patiently in our school. Little by little, the number of people decreased until I was only left with the guard at the front gate. It was getting dark but my sister wasn't there yet. I was getting scared because she isn't the type of person to be late for any appointment. I sat by the guard to relieve my feelings of loneliness. Moments passed, I heard a ring. It was the guard's phone. It was ringing. As he picked it up, I felt that time stopped. Everything was in complete slow motion. He picked it up with a normal expression on. As their conversation deepened, his face changed.

" I see. He's here with me. Uhmm. Should I tell him the news? " I heard him answer. He stared at me with pity.

" What? What was that phone call about? " I heard my self shout. Every word that I let out contained the emotions that I kept bottled up as I waited for her to come.

" I'll take you home. "

" NO!!! Where... Where is she? Where's my sister?! " I screamed my lungs out.

" Skeith calm down. I'll... I'll take you to her. "

I kept crying as he got my stuff and grabbed a cab outside. He asked me to get inside with him. He said that he'll take me to my sister. What was happening? I didn't understand anything? I was only eight at that time. Why didn't anyone explain anything to me?

" To XXXXX Hospital. " I heard him whisper to the cab driver.

" Hospital? " that's when it hit me. Why the hospital? What was happening? Did anything happen to my sister? Did she get hurt? Maybe she was hurt that's why she's there. That's why she wasn't able to get me because she was hurt and she needed to go see the doctor. Those naive thoughts calmed my eight-year old mind. At that time I was too naive to think deeper. To think of other possibilities.

I got down at the entrance of the hospital. We passed several hallways. In most of them, I was still able to see happy faces but as we walked deeper into the halls, their expressions changed. They became more sorrowful. Everyone was crying. My heart started to pound harder. Every step seemed heavier. We stopped in front of a giant door. The words " Morgue " written on top of the door.

" Hey mister, what's a morgue? " I asked clueless but he didn't reply.

A man in white joined us. He talked to the man who accompanied me. Every now and then I saw them stare at me as if not knowing what to do with me. Moments later, I heard footsteps coming from behind me. It was Blaire. He was running through the hall with a pale look on his face.

" Blaire. " I shouted but he didn't seem to notice me.

As he stopped in front of the two men, he began to cry.

" Blaire, why are you crying? "

He came closer to me and knelt beside me for a hug, " Skeith... I'm sorry. If only I was able to pick you up this wouldn't have happened. "

" What? What's happening? "

He turned to the two men behind him, " You haven't told him? "

" No. " the man wearing white clothes replied.

" Told me what? "

" Skeith... " Blaire said as he held my shoulders with both hands, " your sister... She... "

" My sister? "

" She's... She's... gone. "

" Gone? Where did she go? "

" No, Skeith... I mean that... she's dead. "

" Dead?! " when I heard those words it felt like cold water was thrown at me. I felt my face go pale. My mind became blank because of shock. I rushed into the room and there I saw my sister's body laying on a bed. Blood splattered all over. Blaire covered my eyes before I could burn the image of her in my head.

" It's best not to look. " I heard him say.

After my parents heard about the incident, they both returned home to prepare my sister's burial. They thanked Blaire for all the help and for taking good care of me as well. But they said that it would be best for him to forget everything about my sister.

A few weeks after the burial, Blaire vanished from our lives completely.
