It. Was. Hotter than balls outside and Lance would have died if he wasn't already used to the Arizona Heat. The road he was walking down was all too familiar to him, hundreds of times he had tread this road in order to get to town. His house was only about a mile outside of town. Lance couldn't complain since, compared to most of his friends, he lived relatively close to town. Besides, it kept him in good shape and allowed him to have some time to himself and ponder his inner thoughts. Most of which resulted in him hating himself.
He actually hated himself a considerable amount more than anybody thought. He was always spouting things out like a broken faucet before he could even think. He was full of impulse and most of the time he was dense to it. He lived for the day that he would meet someone who could top his level of impulse, but until then he would just silently hate his personality.
Although he was overly confident and full of perfect comebacks and suave pick up lines, there were times when his confidence faltered and they were moments like this. The number one reason why he always surrounded himself with people was so he wouldn't have to deal with his own thoughts.
He sighed and looked across the open plains that surrounded his road, still silently at war with himself. Lance had said he was going into town and he technically hadn't lied. He was just...taking the long way. There was a walking trail that curved all the way along the outside of the town weaving in and out of brush area and plain desert. Lance always took the trail to see what new discoveries he could make that day. The problem was, taking the trail ate up most of his day time. However, the pull of adventure was too much for him. Every time he went on the trail, he found something he had never seen before. No matter how many times he had made his way down it. caves, waterfalls, you name it. And so, Lance went on his daily escapade.
"Hmmmm..." Lance was crouched down in a squat, stick in his left hand, the other arm laying over his knees. He held the stick out, poking at the foot print on the ground in front of him. He furrowed his eyebrows together in contemplation. The footprint was unique, that was for sure. It almost seemed like a bare human foot, but something was off. The toes were too long and the pad far too wide for his liking. He was suspicious.
The sudden sound of footfalls awoke him from his concentrated state. Before he had time to move, he was falling forward. He hit ground with a thud, the side of his face in the dirt and but pushed up in the air. Someone had just run into him, and he didn't appreciate it very much. He flew up off the ground, brushing the dirt from his chest and face. His eyes darted to the person in front of him, already glaring and lip pouted out.
"Hey! Watch where you're going!" Lance said a little too loudly. The person in front of him was wearing all black. ALL BLACK. In Southern Arizona. In the MIDDLE of summer. Was he crazy. The only hint of color which he gave off was the red and white jacket and matching boots he was wearing. The black just seemed to accentuate how pale he was and the fact that he had jet black hair didn't help. He was obviously not much older than Lance, but slightly shorter. His violet eyes failed to hide his slight shock at what had happened.
"Sorry?" he scoffed. "You shouldn't squat down in the middle of the trail. Some one is bound to hit you." He accentuated middle.
"Well, sorry!" Lance shot back, sarcasm evident in his voice. "I was just innocently looking at this obviously Big Foot footprint!" Lance pointed at the ground where he was just a few seconds ago. Thankfully he had not fallen on the footprint.
"What?" the stranger said all too quickly. Lance had managed to catch his attention with sudden talk of cryptids.
"Let me see." He sounded almost like a child, brimming with excitement. Lance stepped in front of the footprint. "Why should I?" He crossed his arms of his chest in denial. "You ran into me, and- you didn't even apologize."
The stranger looked at him incredulously. "Are you serious?" He was obviously not amused. Lance stayed put, making it certain that he wasn't joking.
"Fine..." He conceded, there was no point in fighting him on it and besides, he really wanted to see that footprint. "I'm sorry..." He began before pausing awkwardly.
"What was your name again?" He asked. Lance stood up straight at this and tried to appear suave, a shit-eating grin spreading across his face. He cleared his throat. "The name's Lance~" He held out a hand. "And you?"
"Lance..." He ignored Lance's hand. "I'm Keith."
He said it so matter-of-factly, so plain and different from Lance's style. Lance coughed and scooted awkwardly to the side. "Well then, Keith...I guess you can look at the print." Keith automatically lit up at this, walking over a little too fast to look at the print. He crouched down and squinted before bobbing up and down in excitement.
"Lance!" He said a little too loud. "Th-this! what if it's Mothman!?" Lance quirked one eye brow up and squatted next to Keith. "What? No, its obviously Big Foot!"
"What! No-" Keith stopped mid-sentence, eyes widening. He abruptly stood up. "Sorry! I have to go!" He said before running off at lightning speed.
"Wai-" Lance couldn't even finish his word before the raven haired boy was already out of site.
What Was That About? He thought to himself. He shrugged it off and went back to exploring, almost immediately pushing the thought of the strange boy he just met to the back of his mind.

Lance was nearing the edge of town now and he perked up at the more energetic atmosphere that settled around him. He and his family were citizens of Bisbee, Arizona. While it was a quaint small town with little crime and a population of around 4,000, it had a colorful atmosphere and was a lot more exciting than the dull farm that Lance lived on. He picked up the pace as he made his way onto the main street. It was bright with lanterns and bustling tourism. Bisbee survived off of tourism and nights in town were almost never boring. So, maybe his town wasn't as rundown and God forsaken as he thought, and maybe the local grocery store wasn't the only form of employment.
But he was still a kid and working around alchohol was a no go for him and so it became one of the only options. He walked down the street, mingling in with the crowd which had just started to thicken as the sun went down.
He loved watching the simple human interactions. The people dining in joy as they enjoyed the fresh air which the open terraces of the many restaurants allowed. He was suddenly shoved aside as two kids flew past him, there brown hair slicked back as they engaged in an exciting game of tag, twining in and out from the crowd.
He couldn't help but think back to when he and Benji would fly around in a similar way when they were kids. He also thought about his little nephew Mateo and his boundless energy. The kids curly brown hair and tan skin almost exactly like his. A small smile played with the corner of his mouth as he continued to walk down the sidewalk.
He was now entering the middle of the main street. Here, it opened up to reveal a small square in the center of town. The streets widened out and allowed for a safe area in the middle which pedestrians could sit in. There was a fountain and geysers in the center that you could walk under or stand on. It was a great idea so that people could cool down in the blazing summer heat. A large reflecting pool surrounded the base of the fountain
Lance walked over and plopped down on the edge of it, taking his socks and shoes off before plunging his feet in. The water was clear and cool. He let a murmur of satisfaction rise in his throat. He was in heaven. He could stay like this forever and be fine with that.

Ok, guys! This fic was a very random, very out of the blue decision and so the first chapter was pretty sloppy and short. I hope that this chapter makes up for that! This is my first Kalnce fanfic and I'm SUPER excited about it! Voltron is my second love only to Klance and I will probably never marry because of it. But that's 100% OK :). I also have a fan account on Instagram, she.editzzz_14. Although I do post other things, the majority of what I post is Voltron a.k.a. KLANCE. So if you want to, please check that out and I will keep working to get chapters out! FYI, my computer is currently getting repaired so updates may take a bit. I apologize! Please read on my loves~
