Kathryn's POV

I groan, knocking my head against my desk repeatedly. Lucas would be here in a few minutes and I couldn't help but look forward to seeing him again.

My thoughts are interrupted by a knock on my door. Grace was at Sean's doing their project.

"Come in," I say, trying not to look his way, I knew he was my mate, but I wouldn't accept it, I couldn't.

He opens the door and steps in, carrying his bag slung over one shoulder. He was wearing a leather jacket with a white shirt and dark jeans, his hair was slightly tousled.

"Hey, ready to start?" He asks, skipping to the point.

I nod, grabbing my book and opening it to the page needed. I hear him fall on my bed and zip open his bag, pulling out his book and some paper.

"So we need to research what the main causes of the civil war were, and how they could have been avoided," He states, starting the conversation, probably knowing I wouldn't.

I nod and scan through the paragraphs. Looking for some main causes.

"We know slavery, and state's rights," He says, "We just need one more," He looks up at me.

"Geography," I reply, my voice hoarse, I clear my throat. "Like the different things each side did that separated them and would have caused problems later on anyway." I state, looking over at him.

He nods, biting his pen, concentrated. I couldn't help but notice how sexy he looked doing that. I gulp nervously and turn away, embarrassed.

He chuckles, I look over and glare.

"It's ok, I feel the same." He states, meeting my gaze. I look away quickly, shaking my head.

His voice raises, and he gets up quickly making his way in front of me.

"Kathryn, this is getting old, I have tried my hardest to work with you, I don't know what else you want me to do." He says, his eyes narrowing, a growl escaping his parted lips.

"I need time, after what you did you expect me to forgive you right away?! After all the ways you hurt me? You lied to me! I loved you even before I found out we were mates," I whisper the last few words.

He growls. "I'm sorry! Do you not understand? I was trying to protect you and my family! My secret was just a huge, I didn't just want to throw it around for everyone to find out,"

My mouth drops open. "So you don't trust me now? After everything? Gosh, it's glad to know you trust me," I hiss, glaring over at him.

He mutters something that I don't make out.

"What?" I ask, "Say it, it's obviously bothering you, let it out,"

His next words crush me.

"I wish I got an easier mate," He says quietly, I hear it as clear as day, and I see everything fall apart.

Nothing mattered anymore, I was crushed. I stand up quickly, ignoring his pleads. I rush out of the building, shifting into my wolf and making my way into the woods, he didn't follow, he knew what he had done.

Tears stream down my face as I tread through the woods, hopping over logs. I make my way to a clearing with a small pond laying down and crying.

I hear a branch snap behind me a few minutes later. I jump up defensively, growling.

A guy appears out of the woods slowly. Dang was he attractive. He had deep set green eyes and tousled dark brown hair. He had a defined, bare chest and was about 6'3.
