My body aches and I feel my bones crack as I sit up. The condo is quiet and empty, I haven't gone to school for a week. I haven't eaten a full meal in ages I haven't been able to. I've gotten sick so sick I fainted in the market, the doctor said I need to eat or it could get worst. I ignore any calls and texts, no point in lying to the people who ask me if I'm okay and I don't feel like getting lied to, everything's not going to be okay. Not without my Mia.
I stand and sit back down, my head spins and I feel weak. My legs shake with every slow step. I pick up my phone and look down my contacts and click on her name. After 4 rings I hear a vibration, I look around and walk towards my still unpacked suit case. "Mia here I can't come to the phone but I'll try and call you back later byee." I nearly cry at her voice and I almost die when I see her phone in my bag.
It is barely hanging on by 1%. I race to the charger and slide down the floor and try to think of her password. O322 our anniversary. When I unlock it our fist picture as a couple is her background. I click on her gallery and the tear spring.
Picture after picture of us and her and me. Our spring break photos and ones I didn't know she was taking as I stand on the balcony. I stop on the picture of Mia smiling as I kiss her cheek. I hear the door open but I can't take my eyes off the picture.
"Harry?" I turn and see a pregnant Lydia walking in. She takes the phone from my hand and I can't stop crying. "Fuck Harry look at you." She pulls my arm over her shoulder and pulls me up and lays me on the bed. "You look like a try hard model. When did you last eat?"
"When was Christmas?" she sighs and leaves the room.
"Harry you don't have any food here, get up now." She barks and I groan as she tosses a t-shirt and sweats at me. "Get dressed now."
She walks me outside and my eyes burn with the new light. I turn to go back in but she pulls me into the car. We drive into town and I feel motion sick just from driving. We park in and empty lot and I follow Lydia. She hooks her arm around mine and we walk into a salon.
"Lydia darling!" a middle age woman walks towards us in too high heels for her age. "How are you and oh my uh is this the..." she looks at Lydia's bump and we both shake our head.
"No the father is away for work this is a friend, Harry. Harry this is a good friend of my mother Christy. I was hoping you could give this a trim and clean him up a bit." She ruffles my hair and I cringe, the smell of burnt hair and hair dye make my stomach turn. The woman replaces Lydia's arm and leads me to a near station and washes my hair.
"I'll be back Harry Christy make sure he doesn't leave." The woman agrees and I just lay my head on the sink. I close my eyes for the first time in days and I feel the tension subside for a moment.
She sits me up after a quick wash and walks me to a chair. "Just a trim?" I shrug and she rolls her eyes. A few other workers begin to come in giving me confused looks. I feel the wet hair fall to the cover coat and I worry she's cutting too much.
"So who's the girl?" she says after an awkward silence. I look at her confused and she turns me around away from the mirror. She cuts the nose length bangs and waits for me to continue. I sigh and say fuck it, who better to get something off your chest then tell a stranger I probably won't see again.
"Her name is Mia, she has to be the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. She's the first girlfriend I've felt this way about."
"Oh ... so why do you look so depressed and homeless?" she jokes but I don't bother to laugh.
"I messed things up, I ruined 10 months in a matter of 1 minute. I lied to her and she took it really hard ... I'm taking it really hard." The woman doesn't say anything. I continue to tell her the mistake I've made and she tells me to never forget her. A twist in what everyone else is saying. I close my eyes as she starts to style my hair.
