Sunlight broke through the window shining direly into Will's eye causing a rude awakening which was quickly eased by the peaceful sound of the waves crashing on the foreshore outside. Glancing at his phone, the time read 11 am, Saturday. Yesterday's flight was long and tiring, plus the extra stress of rush packing just before they had to leave the country really got the better of Will. Despite the exhaustion of yesterday, he awoke feeling well-rested. After a few minutes of waking up, he let out a big yawn and walked towards the nearby window overlooking the beach. The water looked amazing. Crystal clear with a nice aqua blue tinge, and the sand a nice golden colour, much brighter and vibrant than the beaches he was used to in California. The sun was already up and it was the weekend which meant no school today. Time to relax and enjoy the good life he thought to himself.

He made his way downstairs feeling relaxed. He felt at home. There was no noise except for the subtle whisper of the wind and the faint sound of the ocean. As soon as he entered the kitchen he was hit with a warm sea breeze coming through the open sliding doors, the white sheer curtains flailing softly in the wind. Hungry as ever, Will was starving and looked around for some food in the cupboard but came out empty-handed. His eyes shifted over to the bench counter where he saw a note.

"Gone furniture shopping, we will be home at 4.

Love mum x"

Grabbing an apple from the nearby fruit bowl, Will headed out the edge of their yard towards the wooden gate by the beach. It was an amazing day. Surfers out in the water, people walking on the beach with their dogs. It doesn't get better than this he thought to himself. Their house was in a sleepy beach suburb making the beach mainly consisting of locals. As he looked out to sea, watching the surfers carving up the waves and slicing through the water like butter, he became inspired. Inspired to learn to surf.

Deep in thought and enjoying the sun Will was suddenly snapped out of his daydream by a loud whining scream.

"Ahhh get away from meeee!"

The source of the noise was a blonde-haired girl who was prancing towards Will looking over her shoulder frantically. She looked about the same age as Will, with tanned skin, a brown bikini and a towel in hand dashing inside the gate.

"Hey! You alright? ..." Will said confused

"Is it following me still?" Tayla said, her eyes darting around the floor

"What are you talking about?" Will said back

"The... the snake!? Didn't you see the bugger chasing me?" She said, still searching the floor

"Nope just -"

Immediately Will lost his thoughts. His brain went blank as Tayla lifted her gaze from the ground to meet his where they locked eyes. It was at this point that Will realised her true beauty. Saltwater still dripping from her hair, he couldn't help but get lost in the trance her deep blue eyes commanded. She was a stunner and somehow she was standing just next to him.

"Sorry for the...*gasps for air*... rush... can we go...*gasps for air*..." I heard her exclaim pointing inside the house.

They both made their way inside. They both turned to each other, Will opening his mouth to question her, still confused about the situation while also content being around her. Before he could say a word Tayla wrapped her arms around him in a bear hug, squeezing tightly despite her being slightly shorter than him. A small grin covered his face, he didn't know why but he couldn't wipe the smile away.

"Sorry about that ..." Tayla said as she went red, blushing. "There was a snake on the path that leads to the beach and it started coming at me. I didn't know what to do" she said quickly

"You are ok thou-" I was cut off

"I'm Tayla by the way. Nice to meet you..." she said holding her hand out waiting for a response.

"Haha Will, yeah good to meet you too, next time try not to squeeze me so hard" he said scratching the back of his head as he looks away sheepishly.

"Maybe... if you are lucky" she exclaimed "Keen for a swim? There is no ways I'm going on that path back to the beach for a while"

They both burst out laughing and set up their towels by the pool. Luckily Dale wasn't home or else he would be ruining this all for Will, teasing him and bringing up embarrassing stories from their childhood days. 'What a way to start my trip in Australia' he thought to himself, 'amazing weather, an awesome home, and I've already made a friend... or maybe more than a friend. We will see'. Will suddenly couldn't help but smile again. Something about being around Tayla made him feel content. Luckily they were sun tanning so she couldn't see his smirk suddenly lighting up his face.
