Chapter 9-
“What’s going on?” I heard him say.
Caden stood up and I just turned to look at my brother who was still waiting for someone to answer him.
“None of your business” Caden snapped, I could tell he was annoyed by the way he answered my brother.
“Why were you kissing my sister?” My brother asked, calmly.
“I’m sure it was just a misunderstanding” I said. I mean, if my brother told Mike, I will be officially done here, he would probably think I was playing him with my best friend. I don’t know what his feelings are towards me yet, but there is a chance that he might like me. So I wasn’t about to do something stupid to ruin those chances.
Caden just looked at me, and I could see the hurt in his eyes, but what could I do? Kiss him back and then what? Lose Mike, and start a fight between them? I know it was stupid for me to let him kiss me but hey, it’s not my fault I got a little carried away. I can’t deny that at one point in life, I did have a big crush on Caden.
“Okay, if you say so, besides I didn’t mean to come interrupt you guys, I was just going to use the bathroom” Bugger said, he looked at me and smirked. No, I knew that smirk, he was up to something. He was going to tell Mike, I couldn’t let that happen. I had to tell him before my brother did. I was heading for the door, but I didn’t even get close when Caden grabbed my arm and pulled me back, not as hard, but not as gentle either.
“So, that was all it was to you?” Caden asked. “A misunderstanding, huh?”.
I couldn’t form any words so I just looked at him. He saw I wasn’t about to say anything so he continued.
“I confess my feelings for you, and all you can think of is that I’m confused, and that everything is a misunderstanding” He said, clenching his jaw. Oh, he was getting frustrated. “You know how many years I’ve spent trying to find the correct way to tell you about my feelings for you? And how much courage it actually took me to tell you?”.
“C-Caden, I’m sorry, it’s just─ “He cut me off. Damn, I hated when he did that.
“You just rather have him than me” He finished for me. “I knew it was a bad idea to tell you Eli, but I thought that the actual fact of telling you, would make you think differently, I know you’ve only had eyes for me as a friend, but I thought that maybe deep inside of you, you could like me at least a little” He added. His eyes were penetrating my soul, I could see he was dying inside, and it hurted me more to know that it was me the one who was causing this kind of pain to him.
“Caden, I’m sorry, if you just had admitted your feelings to me before I got too attached to Mike” I said, “But now I’ve grown to have feelings for him, and you know me better than anybody, you now I rather be honest than a liar, but I can’t try to be with you and lying to Mike” I finished.
Caden looked as if he wanted to convince me to be with him but decided against it. He now looked defeated and said, “I know, I get it Eli, I’m sorry I had to ruin your moment with “Mike” sorry for trying to get in your heart. I guess now I have to live with the fact of you and Mike being together, and with me not being able to do anything about it” He said, “But on top of everything, I’m still your friend, and don’t matter if you’re not with me in that way, I still have you close to me, and that’s all it matters”.
“Thank you for understanding Caden” I told him, I hugged him afterwards and he hugged me right back, as if this was a good bye.
“Caden I’m not leaving or dying” I said, with a small laugh, trying to brighten the mood.
