Justin

Why is she here? I look at Melody, and I freeze.

Why? Why am I like this?

Melody sighs, and balances on her feet. "Hey, Farah." She strolls over to that angel, and hugs her.

"Are all these guys on the committee?" Farah wonders, and I catch her eye for a millisecond.

"They wanted to help." Melody shrugged, and walks Farah to the lights.

Oh my God. I'm by the lights.

I give Mel a panicked look.

What in Gods name are you doing?

Mel just smiles, and they continue to come over. "Farah, you know Justin. Justin, Farah." Mel introduces us, and I stick my hand out awkwardly, my breathings cut off.

"Nice to meet you." Farah smiles, her eyes looking into mine, as she takes my hand. I squeal inwardly in delight.

Where are the sparks?

I ignore the annoying voice in the back of my head. One handshake . . Nothing big. "Nice to meet you, too." My voice becomes deeper, and Mel giggles. My head snaps to her, and I grin, noticing she's noticed it too.

"Am I missing something? Engagement party or pregnancy?" Farah motions between Mel, and I.

I stop grinning, the humor dropping from my tone. "Mel, and I? In a relationship? Uh . . No." I put my hands in surrender. Why does she always think there's something with her, and I.

"Dude..." There's an almost disgusted tone in Melody's voice, and a pang of something hits my stomach.

"Sorry, sorry." She checks her watch. "I have to meet someone . ." She kisses Mel's cheeks, and waves goodbye, running out the door, I turn to Mel.

"You seem more than positive with our relationship status." I gripe, and she knits her eyebrows at me.

"What the hell are you taking about?" She groans, and eyes are on us.

"You make me sound like a bad guy. How is she gonna like a guy her best friend can't even like?" I fold my arms.

"I made it clear I don't like you." she explains. "Would you rather me be on you? Kissing and hugging, that shows off limits. Don't yell at me!" Mel stomps her foot, and I know I've triggered something.

"I just want her to like me . ." I mutter, and she looks up.

"She will." An encouraging hand on my knee gives me butterflies.

WTF.

I stand up. "Sorry for ruining your kiss with Sam . ." I say, and she laughs.

"It's alright. More for the dance, I guess." She smiles, and I find myself grinning back.
