Chapter Nine: Bored To Death

Tessa's POV

It's been weeks since my talk with Robert. The winter formal is only a couple weeks away. Boys are asking girls, girls are hanging posters, gossiping and squealing with their friends. Me, well I'm not taking part in any of that. Matt hasn't asked me and Stacey isn't that much of a friend. Lately she's been hanging out with her boyfriend, Mike.

Its Friday afternoon and I'm sitting in my pre-algebra class, bored to death! I have a photographic memory and were going over stuff I've already learned so I know everything that's going on. I'm dozing off when someone taps my shoulder. I turn to my side to face a girl who is holding out a note to me. I gradually take it and face forward again, opening it slowly.

We are all bored to death, Jones. You can't be dozing off while we have to listen. Most importantly I'm suffering so it's only fair you suffer with me. It's not fair that you can remember it all with one glance.

I look across the room and Matt winks at me. I roll my eyes and playfully stick my tongue out at him. He smirks and I look away, eventually dozing off.

Matt's POV

I notice Tessa has actually fallen asleep and I start chuckling. This was a mistake because the math teacher automatically accuses me for goofing off.

"Mr. Dyllan if you have time to goof off in my classroom then I assume you already know what I'm teaching. Why don't you figure out this problem for me." He points to the board and sends me an expectant look.

I figure since it's Tessa's fault for making me laugh she should share the embarrassment of being called out on in class. "Mr. Carmichael I don't know how to do this problem but may I suggest you call on Tessa? It seems she has fallen asleep and she has a photographic memory, maybe she knows how to solve this problem."

"Ah, yes you have a point." He walks toward Tessa and shakes her shoulders.

Tessa's POV

When the bell rings I'm one of the first people out of the door. My little nap was interrupted when Matt, ever so thoughtfully, volunteered me to answer a math question.

He catches up to me and the first thing he says is "Can't you read? You were supposed to suffer with me, not leave me suffering alone."

"Uh huh and you're supposed to be nice to me, not score me detention."

"Technically it's your fault for getting the answer wrong and scoring us both detention."

"You're the one who told him to call on me! Why couldn't you keep your mouth shut and let me sleep?"

"Where's the fun in that? You should have seen your face! It was pretty damn hilarious. You had slobber running down your chin, and press marks on your cheek. " He says amused.

"I did not! There was no slobber! I don't slobber, Matt!"

"Maybe I was over exaggerating but the look on your face was classic." He coos in a singsong voice.

"Yeah sure, a little." I scoff. "Your little trick got me detention."

"I've got detention too. Apparently Mrs. Aiken doesn't like it when you're a smart ass."

"That's not very surprising. Nobody likes a smart ass."

He rolls his eyes and we part ways as we are going into our final classes of the day.

There are about twenty people in detention. Matt and I were separated for talking so I've been doing class work. Its five-ish and I'm now very ahead in class work. I'm getting peeved off and I'm just about to walk out when we are released. THANK GOD!

I'm across the parking lot when Matt yells "Hey, jones wait up!" I stop and turn around as he catches up to me. "You still need that ride home?"

"Yup."

"Great, I need to talk to your brother about something."

Huh? Why would he need to talk to Nicky? What could he possibly want? All kinds of questions are running through my mind, but I never get to ask any because the Queen Bitch herself comes up to us, blocking my path. Great, what does she want? I think when she opens her big mouth.

She smiles. "Looks like your car's tires are flat."

"Damn it. Tires? How many?"

"Three." She says smirking.

"Shit."

"I can give you a ride if you want." She offers Matt. Great so she wants me to stay here.

"Nah that's okay."

"I'll call Nick." I offer.

"Sounds good." Matt replies.

She smirks, rolls her eyes, and turns on her heals walking away.

"I always have two tires with me but I'm going to have to buy another one."

"Okay, so do you want me to have Nick drive us up to the store?"

"Not us, me. I'll go with your brother and he can drop you off at your house."

"What? Why?"

"I need to talk to your brother."

"About what?"

"Nothing you need to worry about."

Since when did he get all secretive? "Ugh, whatever." I roll my eyes and stalk away dialing Nick's number.
