Chapter Fourteen: You Did Lose Me. You Have Lost Me.

Matt's POV

I've been staying locked up in my room for weeks on end. I've been skipping school and it worries my grandmother that I only come out at diner. I skip all other meals and lie on my bed, looking up at the ceiling. It's been two months and Tessa hasn't woken up. All I can do is blame myself. Nick calls every Friday to keep me updated. Most of her wounds have healed or are nearly healed.

My phone vibrates and I pick it up, startled to find Nick's name displayed on my screen. I instantly freak out. It's Wednesday afternoon, he shouldn't be calling. I answer cautiously, half asking half yelling at the phone.

"Nick, what happened?" I shout frantically.

"Matt get down here now!" He demands.

I freak out. "What, why?"

"She's awake; now get the fuck down here." He hangs up and I sit there, to stunned to move. Then it hits me, she's awake!

I quickly scramble to get up and throw on a clean shirt. I swing open my door and jump to the first floor, being too lazy to climb the stairs. I land wrong and my ankle is bent at an awkward angle. Shit! I get up and limp/run out the door, to my car. I push my keys in and the engine roars to life. I drive to the hospital nearly ending up in an accident myself.

When I get there I run, as fast as one can with a broken ankle, to the elevator. I reach the third floor and limp to room 317. I stumble in the room and fall to the ground startling everyone. The nurse, who was talking in hushed whispers to Tessa, takes a quick look at me and winces.

"You should get that checked," she says pointing to my ankle.

I look down and brush it off, getting up and walking towards Tessa. She looks at me with sadness in her eyes. Tears rush to my eyes. "I thought I lost you," I whisper.

"You did lose me, Matt. You have lost me."

Tessa's POV

I woke up this morning having found out I've been in a coma for a couple months. It sickens me to think about all of that make-up work. God, I hate school work. My morning consisted of hugs and tears. The doctor and nurses told me a lot of stuff that I didn't even pay attention to. My mind was in another place. I was thinking about Matt. What had happened when I left him? How had he reacted when he found out about me? Did he even care?

My questions were answered when Nick saw the distant look in my eyes and told me about Matt. The weight in my heart lifted a little and I felt a little happier knowing he suffered. Apparently he's missed as much school as me. He also stayed in the waiting room all night the night of the accident. I feel better knowing he cared.

When I think back as to why I'm here in the first place, my heart gains its weight again. It feels like my heart just dropped into the very pit of my stomach. Replaying the scene of him kissing her makes me feel sick. I really want to see him, yet I relent to because I can't keep that image away.

The nurse is blabbing on about something when I hear a loud thud. My head automatically perks up. Its him. He's slumped on the floor with a twisted ankle. That has to hurt, I think to myself as I settle back down.

Gosh, I've been wanting, scratch that, needing to look at him. I needed just one simple glance. That glance reminded me of how I both love and hate him. I love him a lot; he was there when no one else was. I needed, no, I need him. Just when I'm about to fall head over heels for this guy, I remember. I remember once again why I'm even here. He kissed her, he kissed Queen Bitch herself.

When I saw it I was repulsed and automatically ran. When I reached my car tears were streaming out of my eyes like. It was so bad I couldn't see the road properly and turned when I didn't have the right of way. When I think of anything after that I draw a blank. If the doctor hadn't informed me the date I'd think it was Saturday, the day after the formal.

Matt walks up to me and leans over with tears in his eyes. He smiles sadly and whispers something I wouldn't have heard had he not been right next to me. "I thought I lost you."

I think about his words. In one way he had lost me. He's still lost me. I'm not his anymore, he made it final the minute his lips touched Jessica's. "You did lose me, Matt. You have lost me." With that I shed one single tear and look away.
