Chapter Eleven: It's Then That I Realize It Wasn't A Nightmare
Tessa's POV
Matt comes to the backyard and stands with me. "What's going on?" He asks me with concern in his voice.
"Nothing." I smile weakly and walk inside, leaving him out there alone. I walk into the kitchen and pull a handful of peanut butter M&M's out of a jar. Peanut butter M&M's calm me down and right now I need to stay calm. I can't bear the thought of losing Matt but I just can't let those photo's leak out.
"What's got you so down in the dumps?" Nick questions.
"Nothing." I reply knowing if I tell them both the same thing they can't confide in each other and find out anything new. I hear Matt come in the back door and try to smile as I walk upstairs. He follows and calls after me.
"Tessa, slow down. What's wrong? Don't give me any of that BS. I want to know what's really wrong."
"Matt, no. Just not now, okay?"
He grabs my hands as I'm walking into my room. I'm automatically spun around and in his arms. He's holding me tightly and not loosening his grip.
"Tessa, I saw Jessica leave." He in a stern voice.
I tense at his words and he notices it. Crap! I had hoped she had gotten far enough that neither of them would notice. Obviously it didn't happen.
"What did she say? There's nothing you can't tell me. I'm here for you. Anything she has against you doesn't matter to me. She doesn't matter."
"Matt I just... I just can't tell anyone. I can't be around you, not now, not ever. I just can't. Please..." I falter. I don't want him to leave. I want him to stay and hold me. I know if he does though, she will find out and everyone will know I made myself puke. Everyone would know my deep dark secret. I couldn't let that happen.
"Please leave." I say stronger.
He looks hurt. That beautiful face of his looks sad and dreary. I think I see a few tears but he blinks and they're gone. "Okay." He says and he walks out without another word.
By now my M&M's are all melted and I have colorful stains on my hand. I throw away the clumps of chocolaty peanut butter and wash my hands. Tears start to form in my eyes and fall down my face. They come faster until I take a deep breath and calmly shake my head. I wipe away the tears and walk downstairs, grabbing the whole jar of M&M's and carry them up to bed.
I fall asleep with a jar of M&M's cradled in my arms. Nick must've come in there at some point because when I wake up from a horrible nightmare I realize the M&M's are gone and I'm covered by my blankets. It's then that I realize it wasn't a nightmare. I really did break up with Matt.
