Chapter Eight: Can't You Just Leave Me Alone For One Moment
Tessa's POV
I can't believe what just happened. Matt Dyllan kissed me! ME! The kiss was strong, warm and deep. I welcomed it with pleasure burning in the back of my throat.
When we break apart we smile shyly at each other and get in his car. He takes me home and I walk inside reluctantly. The girly side of me really wants to call Stacey and tell her. I also wanna yell it outside my window because I'm so thrilled. I know, though, that Stacey will somehow make the conversation about her and yelling out my window will probably wake the neighbors. Its times like these where I need a true friend.
I sigh and get ready for bed. I remove my makeup, take out my ponytail, get in my pj's, and make my bed. I lie down and just think about life. I think about everything that has happened this year and everything that has yet to come, and I wonder what the future will hold.
The next day just as I am putting my dirty dishes, from breakfast, away I hear the ring of my cell phone. I have a text from Matt.
Matt: Hey, Do you need a ride to school?
Me: Yes. That would be great, thanks!
In a few short moments Matt's knocking at my door. "Hey you." He says and gives me a peck on the cheek.
"Hey." I reply reddening.
We walk out to the car and we are off to school. We get to the parking lot and Matt pulls in a spot up front. When we get out of the car a lot of people stare. It's pretty uncomfortable knowing everyone will be gossiping about us throughout the day.
As he walking me to class, hand in hand, we pass Jessica and she is not at all trying to hide the fact that she's staring. Great. Just great. I think whilst rolling my eyes. She glares at me and those pursed lips move into an upward motion. Is she smiling? Fabulous. Add her to the top of my enemy list and I can go ahead and forget about the others. They are nothing compared to the wrath of Jessica Sparks. I have no doubt she's thinking of some evil way to keep her promise.
As the rest of the day goes by I cant help but wonder what she is planning. "Hey, what's up with you?" Matt asks pushing away my thoughts.
"What do you mean?"
"You seem distant."
"Oh, im just thinking." About what?"
God! Does he have to be so nosy? I am not in the mood to talk right now. "Matt can't you just leave me alone for one moment? You've been following me around all day and its driving me crazy!" I quickly storm off leaving Matt by his car alone. I hope he gets the point and doesn't follow me.
I stomp away pouting. slowing. I continue to walk but I still hear its low rumble. I turn around and find a green jeep with tinted windows following me. Shit! I recognize it almost immediately as Jessica. I start walking faster in hopes of getting home sooner. She pulls next to me keeping in pace with my walk. Her window slowly rolls down. This couldn't get any worse! When the hum of the window stops I continue to look ahead.
"Tessa."
I whip my head around surprised to find Robert. "Robert?"
"Nope I'm Ian Somerhalder." He jokes.
I roll my eyes and start walking again.
"Yeah it's Robert. Stop walking Tess."
I whip around. "Why are you following me?"
"Matt told me about your little tantrum and he was worried. I had to drive around everywhere, looking for you, just to shut him up."
Oh. I honestly didn't think how my actions would hurt him. Starting my period this morning really hasn't helped the matter either. God I suck!
"We'll I'm fine. I say stubbornly."
"Okay well that still doesn't answer why you left in the first place."
"If I wouldn't tell him what makes you think I'd tell you?"
"I won't tell him I swear."
"Uh huh, sure"
"Fine, keep to yourself. We both know you don't have anyone else to talk to besides Matty and your brother."
I flinch. "Okay. Fine, you really wanna know?"
"Sure, why not?"
"Just promise not to tell Matt."
"Yeah okay."
Jessica Sparks threatened me and it's been on my mind lately. With the dance coming soon and the kiss I shared with Matt, well... I just figured we would go together. She said if I hung out with him she would ruin me. I mean I don't really care about that. I just, it's killing me to know what she's planning." I take in a deep breath.
"Sounds like a mess."
I reach my house and I start up the walkway.
"Tessa?"
"Yeah?"
"Call him." And with that he speeds off.
I get in the house and figure I really should call him. I've been a jerk and ignored him pretty much all day.
He picks up on the second ring. "Hello? Jones? I've been worried sick! Did you get home all right? Did Robert drive you?"
"Yes and no. I walked and he drove next to me. To be honest at first it creeped me out how he was following me. I thought he was Jessica Sparks."
"Why would it be Jessica?" He asks.
I'm reluctant to answer. "Well she kind of threatened me. She said if I kept hanging out with you she would ruin my social life. It's not that I care but it's killing me knowing she's planning something."
"Don't worry about her. She's just a jealous loon."
I smile. "Did you just say loon?"
"Yes I did. Is that funny to you?"
"Yes, Matt it's pretty funny. Listen I'm sorry about earlier."
"It's okay. You want me to pick you up in the morning?" He asks
"I'd love that." I smile and hang up knowing someone, other than my family, actually cares about me.
