Chapter Five: I Like That
Tessa's POV
I wake up around noon to my phone buzzing with alerts. Today is not the day I need to be bothered with this kind of stuff. I quickly scan through it checking for texts from a certain someone but when I find none I walk downstairs. "Nick?" I yell but no one answers. I walk around the house in search for him. There's nobody home. How could Nick leave me here alone on today of all days?
I'm trying to keep myself from breaking down when I get a call from Matt. I answer with a weary "Hello?"
"Jones are you alright? I haven't seen you at school today and I was worried." He sounds genuinely concerned.
"Yeah, I'm fine I just really need some comforting. Hey um after school could you come over maybe?"
"Be there soon."
I don't even get a chance to respond before he hangs up. With Nick gone I really need someone to hold me and I'm glad he cares.
In the next half hour I hear the doorbell. Well that's strange. Nick has a key and its hours before school lets out. I walk to the door and look through the peephole. I'm surprised to find Matt standing there with a couple bags of groceries. What?
I open the door and he sets the bags down and hugs me. "I'm sorry. I forgot it was your Mom's birthday." These words sting my ears as they exit his mouth. Tears start to form in my eyes but I blink them away quickly. "I brought comfort food." I try to smile at him but it probably looks like I'm in pain. "C'mon let's go into the kitchen."
I follow him into the kitchen and he unloads the items slowly naming each one as he sets it on the counter. Ok so I brought Breyers Reece's Ice cream, Peanut butter M&M's, Reece's peanut butter cups, peanut butter cookies, and a couple movies."
Wow he must know how much I love peanut butter. "Dang dude, that's a lot of peanut butter." I say beaming.
"Oh yes I know how much my Jones likes peanut butter." He smirks "I personally can't stand it."
I stare at him shocked. Who in their right mind would hate peanut butter? "Are you freaking serious? How can u hate peanut butter? There is obviously something wrong with you!"
"No I seriously despise peanut butter. I don't know how you can love it so much."
"Um hello?! Its freaking delicious, that's why! I'm sorry but if you don't like peanut butter you can leave." I say jokingly.
"Okay then I'm taking it with me." He starts packing up the stuff and I yell at him.
"Wait no, leave the peanut butter." I smile sweetly as he rolls his eyes obviously thinking I was about to plead him to stay.
"Oh for crying out loud it's me or the peanut butter."
I smirk, "Really? You do realize you have really small odds at winning right? You said yourself you know how much I love peanut butter."
"Well maybe I was hoping you would pick me over food." He raises his eyebrows.
"Maybe I was going to pick both."
"That wasn't an option."
"I don't care, now come on we're going to my room to watch those movies."
I grab a spoon and the ice cream and he follows me up the stairs. "Okay which one?" he asks holding up Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spiderman. I love superhero movies and I've already seen both but I go ahead and pick Captain America because he's so sexy.
Later when we're lying on my bed watching the movie I decide to thank him. "Matt?"
He turns to look at me. "Yes?" he asks.
"I just wanted to thank you for coming over."
"Good friends are hard to find, hard to loose, and impossible to forget. Of course I would come over."
Did he just say a quote? Awe that's so cute! "I like that. Where'd you hear it?"
"What, the quote?"
"Yes, the quote." I roll my eyes.
"I just made it up."
Is that better than quoting someone else? "Oh, well I like it."
"You already said that." He smirks.
"Oh shut up!" I smile and we go back to watching the movie.
A few hours after Matt has left Nick comes home. "Tessa!" I hear the urgency in his voice and automatically think the worst.
"What? What happened?" I ask alarmed.
"Oh thank god!" he says, his words slurred. Great so while I'm here moping around and he goes drinking.
"Were you drinking?" I don't even know why I bother. I already know the answer and he's going to ignore me anyway.
"I thought maybe you got hurt."
Why would he think that? "No Nicky, I'm fine. What's going on?
"I heard about a car crash on the news at the bar and it was your car."
"What? My car is in the driveway, you're just drunk." I say accusingly
"No its not, it was in the wreck. It had the same license plate, Tessa. Someone stole your car.
"What?!" my precious convertible stolen? Ugh! Today couldn't get any worse.
"I said..."
"No, I know what you said I just don't believe you." I yell butting in on his sentence.
"Check the driveway yourself." He commands.
"I think I'll do just that!" I stalk over to the window and take a look outside. Sure enough my convertible is gone. "Oh my gosh! How did I not hear it being stolen?"
"I don't know but Dad's going to be pissed."
"Shit!"
"I'm sure insurance will cover it. The person was caught too so they can pay for the damage or buy a new one. Either way I'm sure Dad can find a way to deal with it since he's a Lawyer."
"Yeah I'm sure he can too but it doesn't mean I want to tell him I was home all day and managed to let my car get stolen!"
"Right... You have fun with that. I'm going to bed."
"Don't for get to take some Aspirin and drink plenty of water! You're going to be paying for it tomorrow!" I yell at him.
"I know how drinking works little sis." He replies tiredly.
"Don't expect me to be cleaning up your mess in the morning."
"I wouldn't dream of it."
I know full and well that I will be cleaning after my brother in the morning.
