Chapter Fifteen: Get Your Shit Together

Tessa's POV

I start school the next Monday. I really don't want to go back. It's around mid-February and school is almost over. Thankfully, I just have to suck it up for about another three months and I'll be free.

When I get to school Matt isn't in his regular seat. I shrug it off feeling a bit better. Seeing him makes me feel betrayed and I would rather not feel anything.

I do, however, pass a questioning gaze towards Stacey. She shrugs her shoulders not having the least bit idea of where he could be. Oh well, I'll live.

School goes by fast without a single sight of Matt. Yippee!! I'm not ready to go home just yet so I go to Starbucks. I order my normal, a caramel frappe, and take a seat at a table, letting my gaze stop upon something random while I daydream. I am totally transfixed in thoughts that it takes me a while to register someone has sat across from me. When I finally look up I find Robert. Shit!

"What do you want," I ask frustrated.

"I want you to give Matt another chance."

"Hell no! I've spent enough time grieving over him. I'm tired of grieving and I want to live my life. I don't want to hang out with someone who hurt me that bad."

"You don't know what he's been going through. He never comes out if his room, he cries all day, he's missed about as much school as you, and he doesn't even eat."

"Yeah well he should suck it up. He broke MY heart, I didn't do anything."

"You're wrong. You're the one who wouldn't go with him to the formal in the first place. This is practically all your fault. Why was that? Why did you say no? You obviously love him, why hurt him?"

"Loved, yes. I didn't have a choice, Robert. I thought I had to. When I realized I didn't it was too late. I got to the school and he was sucking the life out of Jessica."

"He hadn't slept in days, Tessa. He didn't know who he was kissing. He thought it was you."

"Bullshit," I say rolling my eyes.

"I'm serious Tessa. He loves you; he never would have done anything like that in his right mind. Just give him another chance," Robert pleads.

"I don't think so. He captured my heart and then shattered it. I'm not ready for that again." I'm starting to get tears in my eyes and I really don't want to cry in front of him.

Robert's POV

Damn, she sure is difficult. If only she could see Matt's state, she would probably reconsider. Of course I'm not really thinking about how all of this feels to her. She was in a coma for crying out loud.

"Okay, but think about it?" I get up and walk out. I seriously need to have a chat with Matt. No more slacking off. He needs to get his crap together.

I go to our grandmother's house and stomp up the stairs. I try opening Matt's door, as always its locked. I bang on the door several times. When he doesn't answer I go into my old bedroom and grab a key from my nightstand. I had always kept it close for when he locked himself up in that room of his. I unlock the door and gaze inside.

The scene before me isn't that surprising. Matt is lying curled up on his bed. I roll my eyes, he's such a girl. The lights are off, the curtains pulled shut. The Xbox is on and the controller is across the room, under a hole in the wall. Wow.

I stroll towards his windows and pull apart the curtains. I turn off the Xbox and pick up the controller, setting it on the TV. I grab a pillow from the floor and throw it at him.

"Get up!"

"What?" He's confused as he wakes up from a deep sleep. "How did you get in?"

I give him a pointed look and understanding crosses his face. "Matt you need to get up off your ass and get your shit together." He stares at me, surprised by my sudden change of mood.

I stroll to his closet and grab him a clean t-shirt and some jeans. "We're going out and your wearing this." I toss him the clothes and saunter out yelling "Meet me downstairs in five!"

Matt's POV

Robert stalks away leaving me startled. Since when is he actually interested in my actions? Whatever. I sit up and stretch before standing up.

Once I have on my clothes I walk into the bathroom to brush my teeth and hair.

I walk downstairs and find Robert waiting by the door, keys in hand. I wonder what we're doing and where we're going.

Apparently Robert's idea of an outing consists bowling and pizza. I guess he just wanted a night out with the boys. My dad used to take us bowling a lot, just the three of us. We loved it; it was our guy's night. Robert and I are great at bowling and we both enjoy it, only tonight I'm not feeling it.

"Rob," I start, using my father's nickname for him, "can I take a break?"

"You afraid to loose little brother?"

"No," I smirk "I'm just not feeling it."

"C'mon dude! It's our night, don't bail on me now. Seriously, just try to have fun. Forget about her, tonight is for us."

"I can't forget," I state plainly.

"Look man I'm sorry but you have to get over her."

"I can't!" I'm yelling at him now. It's drawing attention but I don't care. I can't get over her, I can't.

"Then try." He says this sternly, looking directly in my eyes.

I stomp away angrily, heading towards the bathroom. I walk in and look at myself in the mirror. I see a young teenager who has 5 day old stubble, bright blue eyes, and messy dark hair. I see me, only I look older than usual. I don't know if it's because of the stubble or the fact that I've lived through heartbreak and learned something new, but it's definitely there. I sigh and walk out, more calm then when I went in.

"I'm sorry, Robert. It's just going to be hard getting over her."

"I know. Try being friends again. What was that thing you always said? Something like good friends are hard to find, hard to lose, and impossible to forget? Yeah, that was it. Just go back to being friends."

"Do you think she'll even want to be friends?"

"I honestly do not know, lil bro. You'll just have to try it and find out." He winks as if he just gave the best advice ever. "Now c'mon it's getting late and you, my friend, are going to school tomorrow."
