Dear Miss Schuyler,

Your letter had me in stitches!

You're right of course, many of my gender would have retorted at how the 'people' we use as slaves are hardly human, that they were uncivilised when we found them, and that we are merely spreading Christianity and taking the worst jobs away from people who don't deserve the difficulties they involve -

And they would quite plausibly have done so with the words 'my dear girl'.

But I like how you anticipated that.

You intrigue me Miss Schuyler,

And I believe that makes you more than a 'dear girl', and instead, an intelligent woman who may be almost on-par with my own intelligence.

Or not.

I will have to judge for myself in your reply.

I am anxious to hear about the war. News here is infrequent and slow, the peasants being dissatisfied as they are with their current circumstances, are plotting a rebellion of their own, you can see it bubbling under the surface like a volcano about to erupt. I am curious as to how revolution is fairing across the sea, so I may know a little of what to expect when it arrives here.

The pleasure's mine,

T. Jefferson
