XXXVIII. Karen
The funny thing about love is that no matter how much you gave everything, how much you have hurt, how much you lost, you just get the courage to stand up again, it still goes on. No matter what love does to us, love still continues together with life. Life goes on.
I use that love I have left in these coffee I make everyday. I’m Karen. I’ve been damaged by love a lot of times. I just wish that every coffee I make helps other people to love their life, too.
He’s here. He’s always here. He has been here for the past 12 months.
Jess’: The usual.
Karen: I know. One cappuccino coming up.
Jess’: Hey, you forgot the Jess on the label. It doesn’t mean that I’m a usual customer you could serve me less.
I laughed as I write the man’s request.
Karen: Still waiting for her?
Jess’: Yes. No. I don’t know.
Karen: I think she’s still as beautiful as the first time I saw her when you both first met.
Jess’: Yeah. Bet she is.
He sat down.
After 2 hours, he’s fixing his laptop on his case. He’s ready to leave just like the same time he does everyday.
Then, a new customer came by. She ordered cappuccino. Good. Now Jess is leaving, one vacant seat would be available for her.
Karen: What is your name, Miss?
Jess: Jess.
Karen: Oh.
She left and searched for a vacant seat. She approached him.
Are you leaving?
He was not looking but he replied:
Jess’: Yeah. You could have this seat.
He looked up.
Jess’: Jess?
Jess: Jess.
Jess’: You came.
Jess: You waited for me?
Jess’: Every single day at the exact same time since I left.
Jess: With the same coffee flavored Starbucks?
Jess’: Yeah.
Jess: You’re insane.
Jess’: Yeah.
