A/N: Very important author's note at the end of this chapter.
The darkness that surrounded Kat seemed to be stifling. The damp air made it hard to draw in a breath, and she wasn't sure how much longer she could go for. By this time, her leg wound was effectively infected, and every time she shifted, fiery pain shot up her leg into her hips.
She gasped in pain as she reached for a tray of stale food with a trembling arm.
"Poor Kat," came Rhea's voice. "How does it feel to be the weak one?"
Kat gritted her teeth and said nothing. Anything she said would only be used to fuel Rhea's anger and desire for revenge.
"No reply? Oh, I'm hurt!" The air in front of Kat shimmered and a form began to take shape, eventually coming to create a young girl. A girl with blonde hair and hatred in her eyes. "Maybe a glimpse of your beloved Liam will be enough to make you talk to me."
She took a small spray bottle out of her back pocket and started spritzing in the air. A mist fell down like a blanket, softly landing on Kat's skin, only serving to freeze her more. A light appeared from the back wall, shining into the mist, and suddenly Kat understood what was going on.
"Iris, goddess of the rainbow, hear my plea. I would like to speak with Liam Montgomery!"
Rhea tossed a drachma into the rainbow that she had created and it disappeared without a sound.
As Rhea continued to spray water into the air, an image began to appear, and Kat's heart rose as she saw her husband's face appear. He had his hands in his hair, and it looked like he had tears running down his face. It didn't take a genius to realize what he was crying over.
"Liam," Kat croaked. "Liam!"
His head shot up. "Kat?" His voice was strained and filled with disbelief. "Kat, is that you?"
Kat started crying. All of her emotions began to spill out. All of her fear, all of her exhaustion, all of her hatred for the girl she once called friend. Not to mention all of the pain that she had been put through. "Liam..."
"Baby, it's okay! Just tell me where you are and I'll come find you! I promise. Where are you?"
Rhea stuck her face in front of Kat's. "Oh, that's not important!"
His face morphed from relief and joy to anger and darkness. "Rhea. Rhea, what are you doing? Bring your mother home!"
She simply tittered. "Oh, but this isn't my mother. Oh, no. Not at all. This is the girl who I was supposed to kill twenty-three years ago!"
Liam's eyes widened in horror. "What have you done to my wife, Rhea? What have you done to her?"
"That's for me to know and for you to find out. Toodle-oo!" Rhea stopped spraying the water in the air, and the connection was lost.
Kat collapsed in a pile of tears. The very sight of Liam was enough to lift and drop her spirits at the same time. The notion that she could have been there with him killed her inside.
"Hmmph. We'll talk tomorrow, m'kay?" Rhea left like a fog. There one moment, and gone the next.
Finally, Kat could weep in solitude.

Dear readers,
I'm sorry. I am so out of ideas for this story, and I kind of hate it at this point, so I'm contemplating taking it down and completely redoing it at some time in the future. What do you think?
