I finally found a vet clinic just outside the main part of the town. Johnny was still asleep, so I held my new little friend and headed in to see what I could find out about him, and what it would cost me to get him back into full health. I was hoping he didn't have something very seriously wrong with him...like three of the other animals I have rescued in the past. Right when I went in a very lovely girl came up to me and asked me what she could do for me today. I gave her a smile and showed her my puppy and told her that I saved him from a drain in the ditch along side the road the other day, and would like him to be checked up to make sure he was in good condition, and if he wasn't he needed her to get him the right medications so he would be.
She gave me a smile and said she could do that right away, then she picked the puppy up and offered me to go back with her while she did the checkup on him. I went back with her, as she checked his heart, and his breathing with her stethoscope, then got some needles ready to draw some blood, after she drew the blood, she checked his mouth and teeth, then told me that it would be good just as a precaution to go ahead and give him all of his puppy vaccinations, and a parvo shot. Then she took a look at the puppy with a sonogram like machine and said also that it would be smart to give him some strong worm medicine, because him living in bad conditions when I found him, he was most likely to have worms.
I shook my head in agreement and told her to give him the complete treatment, that money wasn't an object. She told me that she would, but first the little guy needed to be bathed and clipped and trimmed...then she would go with the medical treatments. I sat in the chair while she was taking care of the puppy...I was trying to think of a name for him, but I didn't want to get my hopes up until his blood test came back. Because if he had a terminal disease I would have to put him to sleep. Hours went by and now all that was left was waiting for the blood test results. She came over to me and handed me the puppy and said that he was all ready to go to his new home...that the blood test came back and they were all negative. Then she added that she also gave him a tick and flea treatment.
I followed her back to the front desk and thanked her very much, and asked her what the bill was. She typed it all up on the computer and said $240.00. I pulled out some cash and gave her the money, then gave my little pooch a smooch, then asked her if she knew what kind of puppy I had, or if he was just a Heinz 57. She took a look at the puppy and said he looked like he could be part husky, or a wolf hybrid that someone just didn't want to take care of anymore and dropped them...then she said after he grew up a little more she would be able to make a better guess at what breed of dog he would be. I gave her a smile and told her it didn't matter he was my new little buddy, then I thanked her again and headed toward the door...when she stopped me and asked me if I would like to get him blue chipped so if he ever got lost or missing I would be able to find him. I stopped and looked down at the little guy and said yes. I quickly gave her my address and information she put it in the chip then inserted it in between the puppy's shoulder blades just under his skin.
Then she said have a great day and enjoy every moment with my new companion. I gave her a wave then went out the door where I had a head on collision with a very lovely looking girl, she gave me a smile and apologized to me as she gave my puppy a pet then she went in to chat with the girl at the desk. I stared at her for a few moments then shrugged it off and hopped in the RV...and told everyone that my puppy was fine, and now we could go to the nearest diner to grab some lunch because I was starving and so was my new companion that I decided to name Houdini.
When Johnny finally woke up from his nap, I was just pulling up at a Chinese Restaurant called the Panda House. Johnny saw the puppy and gave a little squeal as he wrapped his arms around the puppy and hugged him as the puppy was licking all over his face and neck. Johnny looked up at me and asked if the puppy was his too. I pulled him up in my lap and told him he sure was, and his name was Houdini. Then I carried them both to the back room and put the puppy on the bed with Hammie and Stutter, and told Johnny it was time for lunch then he could come back and play with him.
I handed Johnny to Stoney as I held the door open for all of them to enter the restaurant...and once again for a split second I looked down as I removed my sunglasses, and had another head on collision with another girl, I quickly helped her up as I noticed her drink spilt all over her shirt, and apologized to her, but when I looked at her face, I couldn't believe it! She was the same girl I ran into at the vet clinic! I chuckled to myself and said there was no way this happened to me twice in the same day with the same girl. I offered to buy her another drink and shirt for making a mess from my clumsiness...but she just gave me a smile and said not to worry about it, she had another shirt in her car. But I insisted on buying her another drink.
